Myles Garrett sets Browns’ sack record, aggravates shoulder injury

Defensive end Myles Garrett became the Cleveland Browns’ all-time sack leader on Sunday, but he also aggravated a left shoulder injury and left during the fourth quarter of their blowout loss to the visiting New England Patriots.

In the first quarter, Garrett sacked Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe to break Clay Matthews’ record and reach 62.5 sacks for his career.

He picked up his second sack and reached 63.5 for his career with another sack in the fourth quarter. But stayed down on the field and needed to be helped off the field by trainers.

Garrett was on the injury report all week after sustaining arm, shoulder and hand injuries in a car accident last month. He confirmed after the game that he’d aggravated the shoulder he sprained in the accident, but promised it wouldn’t sideline him for long.

“I was playing today and I’ll be playing next week,” Garrett said.

Led by their rookie third-string quarterback, the Patriots ran roughshod over the Browns’ defense in a 38-15 win. Garrett wanted to downplay his record and said he had to do more to help the unit.

“It comes in a loss,” Garrett said of the record. “It’s nice to be recognized and honored, but at the end of the day winners are remembered. And we’re not winning.”
