NFL Week 7 Opening Odds Report

The Buffalo Bills are double-digit road favorites at the New York Jets in Week 7 opening odds and you are wondering – how many times has that happened? Well, since our database began in 1980, the answer is five times.

The most recent was Dec. 26, 2004 when they were -11 at San Francisco when the 49ers were reduced to starting non-Hall of Famers Cody Pickett and Ken Dorsey at QB, while the Bills rolled with Drew Bledsoe. The other four were in the early 90s Jim Kelly halcyon days.

And how many times have the Jets been double digit home underdogs? Once. It was Nov. 25, 2018 with a predictable result in the battle of Tom Brady and Josh McCown.

The Bills are among seven road favorites in Week 7 opening odds and there are trends that point to several of them being in big ATS trouble.

Other Double Digit Point Spreads?

The only other game that looks like it might jump to 10 points is the Kansas City Chiefs at Denver. It opened at -9.5 for the visiting Chiefs.

Dallas, Green Bay and Cleveland comprise a trip of teams that were destroyed in Week 6 but who remain favored here in Week 7. And Tennessee must be wondering what they need to do get some respect from oddsmakers. True the Pittsburgh Steelers have been good, but the Titans catch a few points at home in a bit of a surprise.

The Thursday Night game could be a real train wreck, with the winless Giants visiting the nearly winless (and horribly crippled) Eagles. The Giants continue a hot hand for bettors a road team (check) and as an underdog (check). The line is moving (down to -3.5 Philly at some books by Tuesday) because of injury reports concerning Zach Ertz and Miles Sanders.

Over to Monday Night and the Chicago Bears (possibly the least deserving 5-1 team in decades) opened as 5.5-point underdogs to the LA Rams. See our comparative NFL odds (along with full matchup reports) to watch line moves during the week. Numbers courtesy of BetRivers and SugarHouse sportsbooks.
