Panthers RB McCaffrey misses practice with quad injury
Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is again on the sidelines, hampered for a second consecutive day with a quad injury that kept him off the practice field Thursday.
McCaffrey was limited Wednesday at practice with the new injury, but was not on the field at all during the portion of Thursday’s session open to the media.
Panthers coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday that McCaffrey’s quad “tightened up” during practice.
It’s been an injury filled season for McCaffrey, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 which forced him to miss six games. In his return to the field in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs, he injured his shoulder which has sidelined him since.
The 24-year-old has just 225 yards rushing with five touchdowns to go with 17 catches for 149 yards and another score in three games.
In those three games with McCaffrey the Panthers are 0-3, without him the team is 4-5.
The Panthers (4-8) host the Denver Broncos (4-8) on Sunday in Charlotte.
