Eagles vs Steelers Pick, Odds, Trends

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 7-1-1 ATS in their past 9 games played in October. After an unexpected bye week due to Covid-19, the Steelers will host the Philadelphia Eagles in an all Pennsylvania matchup.

There are certain matchups I like in this game for the Eagles, so this game should stay within six points. I like the Eagles and the points.

Why the Eagles will cover the spread

The Eagles are 1-2-1 and in first place in the NFC East. They got their first win last week against the San Francisco 49ers, in a game where their defensive line dominated. The Eagles currently lead the league in sacks, and it has been by committee. The Eagles have three players with at least 2.5 sacks, and have 17 in total.

The Steelers offensive line is a little banged up, as they will be starting backup RT Chukwuma Okorafor. Brandon Graham and emerging defensive end Genard Avery will be able to cause some problems on the right side of the ball.

Carson Wentz played his best game of the season last week, and carried a depleted Eagles offense to victory. He will have to do it again in this game, as the Eagles will be starting the same 11 guys on offense. Greg Ward out of the slot should be a mismatch for the Eagles, as the Steelers slot corner Mike Milton is their biggest liability on defense.

Why the Steelers will cover the spread

The Steelers will be entering this game fresh, as they had their bye week last week. The Steelers defense has been lights out thus far, and are 2nd in the NFL in sacks, and have played a full game less than every other team. This could be another game where the Steelers get after the Quarterback, as the Eagles will be starting three backup offensive lineman on Sunday.

On offense, the Steelers should be able to split 4-5 wide receivers out and attack the Eagles with the short passing game. The Eagles middle of the defense is very weak, so I am expecting a lot of quick, short passes over the middle. The Eagles will also be without starting cornerback Avonte Maddox in this game, which opens up the field for Dionte Johnson.

Eagles Steelers pick

This will be one of the better games of the week. I like this game to stay close until the end, which has me leaning the Eagles in this one. The Steelers are the better team and should win, but seven points is too many to give up. Take the Eagles and the points in this one.
