Raiders bring back safety Karl Joseph

The Las Vegas Raiders are reuniting with one of their former first-round picks.

Unrestricted free-agent safety Karl Joseph has signed a deal to return to his original team, the team announced Friday.

NFL Network reported Joseph visited with the Raiders on Thursday. No official contract terms were released or reported.

“Man, I’m so excited to be back,” Joseph said on a video clip posted on the Raiders’ official Twitter account. “Ready to get this thing rolling and finish what we started back here, man. Let’s go. Once a Raider, always a Raider.”

The physical safety played with the Cleveland Browns last season after signing a one-year, $2.5 million deal almost a year ago to the day.

Joseph finished tied for third on the Browns with 67 tackles, adding one interception and two fumble recoveries in 2020, when Joseph started in eight of his 14 games. He also started in both of Cleveland’s playoff outings, scoring the opening touchdown on a fumble return just 14 seconds into Cleveland’s 48-37 upset over Pittsburgh in the AFC wild-card round.

Joseph, 27, spent his first four seasons with the Raiders after the team, then based in Oakland, selected him with the 14th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. In five NFL seasons, he has delivered 303 tackles, five interceptions, three sacks and five fumbles recovered.
