Ravens CB Young sustains season-ending ACL tear

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during Sunday’s win against the Houston Texans.

The Ravens feared the injury was serious after Sunday’s game and received confirmation on Monday, according to coach Jim Harbaugh.

“We did get final word on Tavon. It is a torn ACL,” Harbaugh said. “It’s only a torn ACL so that’s a positive. He’ll have surgery and go into rehab. He’ll fight his way back. There’s no question about it. My heart goes out to him on that, and we’ll be supporting him all the way.”

Suffering a major injury in the second game of the season is the latest blow for the 26-year-old Young. He missed the entire 2019 season due to a neck injury and sat out the 2017 campaign with an ACL tear in the same left knee.

Young displayed promise as a playmaker in 2018 when he recovered three fumbles and returned two for touchdowns. He also intercepted one pass and had 37 tackles and two sacks in 15 games (six starts). During the ensuing offseason, he signed a three-year, $25.8 million extension that began with this season.

As a rookie in 2016, Young recorded 53 tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery in 16 games (11 starts).

Young had two tackles in this season’s opener against the Cleveland Browns.

The injury against the Texans occurred after Young leapt in the air to break up a pass and landed on the turf in Houston.

Young was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft out of Temple.
