Ravens sign CB Humphrey to 5-year, $98.75M extension

The Baltimore Ravens signed All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey to a five-year, reported $98.75 million extension, the team announced Thursday.

The deal makes Humphrey, 24, the second-highest paid cornerback in the league, behind only the Los Angeles Rams’ Jalen Ramsey’s $100 million deal ($20M per season), according to Spotrac. Humphrey’s deal, which keeps him in Baltimore through the 2026 season, will pay him $19.75 million per year on average.

Humphrey, who gets $66 million in total guaranteed money, had two years remaining on his rookie deal.

“Marlon is the type of player we want in Baltimore,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. “Besides his obvious talents as a playmaking corner, he’s a passionate competitor who craves winning. Marlon has been a stalwart in our community, and we are excited that he’s going to remain with us for seven seasons.”

Humphrey quickly became a stalwart on the Baltimore defense. He had two interceptions as a rookie, started eight games in his second year with two more picks before making first-team All-Pro and the Pro Bowl last season. He had a career-high three interceptions and two fumble returns for touchdowns in 2019.

In three games this season, Humphrey has an interception, a forced fumble and 14 tackles.

Since 2017, Humphrey is one of two defenders to produce at least 40 passes defensed, eight interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, according to the Ravens website. Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore is the other.

The Ravens selected Humphrey in the first round (16th overall) of the 2017 draft out of Alabama.

The Ravens signed cornerback Marcus Peters to a three-year, $42 million extension near the end of 2019, giving the team one of the top defensive backfield duos in the league.
