Ravens WR Bryant backs off mic drop tweet

After revealing he had tested positive for the coronavirus, Baltimore Ravens receiver Dez Bryant suggested on Twitter that he was opting out for the rest of the season.

The Ravens announced he was scratched from the game due to an illness, and shortly before kickoff, Bryant’s Twitter account posted: “I’m going to go ahead and call it a quit for the rest of the season.”

Either he was kidding or as the game went on, he had second thoughts because he was singing a different tune a couple hours later as the Ravens were on their way to a 34-17 win over the Cowboys.

“Yea I’m coming back… I’m being smart,” Bryant wrote two hours after his original tweet.

Bryant, who was excited to face his former team, was on the field at M&T Bank Stadium about two hours before the game, but he did not join his teammates for their full-team warmup. Bryant had been tested Tuesday morning, but the results of that test and a retest were inconclusive.

A point-of-contact PCR test was administered at the stadium and came back positive, leading Bryant to announce his positive status in a profanity-laced tweet. Contact tracing quickly cleared other players on both teams, who had all tested negative.

In eight seasons in Dallas, Bryant made 531 receptions for 7,459 yards and a franchise-record 73 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl three times before being released in 2018.

The Ravens signed Bryant, 32, to their practice squad on Oct. 27. He was elevated to the active roster four weeks later and has just four catches for 28 yards.
