Report: Broncos DC Donatell out due to COVID protocol

Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ed Donatell will miss Sunday’s home game against the Los Angeles Chargers after testing positive for COVID-19, according to NFL.com.

Donatell, 63, self-reported that he wasn’t feeling well Saturday and stayed home, per the NFL’s guidelines. He reportedly tested positive for the virus overnight.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio is the primary defensive play-caller and will continue that in Donatell’s absence.

No players returned positive tests from leaguewide tests issued Saturday, according to the report.

The Broncos altered practice Friday after announcing a player had tested positive for COVID-19. Later that day, guard Graham Glasgow was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Broncos, who were one of four teams that had a positive test result this week, conducted virtual meetings Friday and held a practice session at UCHealth Training Center on Saturday.

Tackle Demar Dotson and guard Austin Schlottmann both received consecutive negative tests Friday and Saturday and have been cleared to play.

Broncos offensive line coach Mike Munchak entered COVID-19 protocols Tuesday and has not attended practice.
