Report: Chargers RB Ekeler to miss 4-6 weeks

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is expected to miss four to six weeks with a hamstring injury and a hyperextended knee, ESPN reported Monday.

NFL Network reported that Ekeler’s hamstring issue is a Grade 2 strain. ESPN reported he would seek another medical opinion.

Ekeler, 25, is headed to injured reserve after sustaining the injury in Sunday’s 38-31 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He reportedly wore a brace on the knee and walked on crutches after the game.

Ekeler finished with two carries for 12 yards and one reception for two yards against the Buccaneers.

Ekeler burst onto the scene last season with 1,550 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns. He has 23 career touchdowns — nine on the ground and 14 receiving.

Joshua Kelley is the next man up for Los Angeles. He has 52 carries for 174 yards and a touchdown this season for the Chargers (1-3), who will visit the New Orleans Saints (2-2) next Monday night.
