Report: Dolphins LT Terron Armstead undecided on ’24

Miami Dolphins five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead is undecided about returning for the 2024 season.

“I never make any decisions right after the season, I always take my time,” Armstead said Monday. “Talk to God, let him order my steps, talk to my kids. That’s been my approach the past three offseasons. It’ll be the same approach.”

Armstead said after his exit interview at the team facility on Monday he came back for the 2023 season with a “Super Bowl or bust approach.”

In addition to Armstead’s uncertain future, right guard Robert Hunt becomes an unrestricted free agent in March. Armstead said the Dolphins can’t lose Hunt.

“It’d be a no-brainer to me. Robert Hunt is on his way to being the best guard in the league,” Armstead said.

Cornerback Xavien Howard is another player who senses his future could be up in the air with speculation the Dolphins will approach him about a pay cut. Howard doesn’t plan to accept a reduced salary to stay in Miami, he said Monday.

“My eight years here, I loved it. And whatever happens, I’m with it,” he said.

Spotrac salary data shows releasing Howard, 30, in the offseason would cost the Dolphins $27.1 million for a dead cap charge. He’s scheduled to be paid $15.4 million in base salary in the third year of his five-year, $90 million deal with the Dolphins.

Armstead, 32, missed four games on injured reserve this season with a knee injury and was inactive for three other games. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the fifth time in the past six seasons anyway.

Armstead has started 116 of his 120 games with the Dolphins (2022-23) and New Orleans Saints (2013-21), who drafted him in the third round in 2013.
