Report: Dolphins release C Matt Skura, LB Benardrick McKinney

The Miami Dolphins reportedly released veteran center Matt Skura and former Pro Bowl linebacker Benardrick McKinney on Monday, one day prior to the NFL deadline to cut rosters to 53 players.

The NFL Network reported the release of the two players, who both joined the Dolphins in the offseason.

Skura started 51 of the 54 games he played for the Baltimore Ravens — including 12 of 15 in 2020 — but encountered snapping issues last season. He temporarily lost his starting gig after unleashing three errant snaps during a mid-November loss to the New England Patriots.

The Dolphins signed the 28-year-old Skura to a one-year, $1.75 million deal in March.

McKinney was acquired from Houston in March as part of the package that sent Shaq Lawson to the Texans. Lawson was subsequently traded to the New York Jets on Sunday.

McKinney, 28, recorded more than 100 tackles three times during six seasons with the Texans. He played in just four games last season before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.

He had 37 stops last season and 530 overall in 80 games (77 starts) for Houston. McKinney has registered 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.

He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 when he had 105 tackles. His career high is 129 in 2016.
