Report: Eagles DC Schwartz won’t coach in 2021

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is contemplating retirement and will not coach in 2021, NFL Network reported Saturday.

Schwartz, 54, is finishing his fifth season with the Eagles and intends to allow his contract to expire after Sunday night’s season finale against the Washington Football Team, according to the report.

He has been coaching in the NFL since 1993, including a head coaching stint with the Detroit Lions from 2009-13 (29-51 record). The Eagles won Super Bowl LII after the 2017 season, his second year on head coach Doug Pederson’s staff.

Schwartz was a candidate for the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching vacancy last year, a position that went to Kevin Stefanski.

Schwartz has dealt with multiple health issues off the field, including recent hip and eye surgeries, and is ready to “step away from the daily grind, at least in the short term,” per the report.
