Report: Lions DT Joel Heath tears ACL in non-contact drill

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Joel Heath is done for the season after tearing his ACL during the team’s organized team activities this week, NFL Network reported.

Heath was injured during a non-contact bag drill while the team was doing individual workouts, according to the report.

Heath, 27, signed with Detroit in mid-February after being released by the Denver Broncos earlier in the month. He opted out of the 2020 season with Denver due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heath spent his first four seasons with the Houston Texans and had 34 tackles and three sacks in 32 games (16 starts).

He played college football at Michigan State and wasn’t selected in the 2016 draft before signing with the Texans. He was released prior to the team’s 2019 regular-season finale.
