Report: Saints face penalties over postgame celebration
The New Orleans Saints are expected to receive a hefty penalty from the NFL after their postgame celebration last Sunday was caught on video, according to ESPN.
Several players were seen dancing and celebrating without masks in the locker room in tweeted videos following their 38-3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
A recent memo to NFL teams from the league said: “All players and staff must wear masks or double-layered gaiters in the locker room on gameday — prior to the game, during halftime, and post-game.”
Multiple players posted videos of the celebration as did the team’s official Twitter account, though the team has pulled the videos from its Twitter feed.
The Saints were fined $250,000 after Week 2 this season for coach Sean Payton not wearing a mask during a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Payton was fined $100,000.
The Raiders recently were hit with a $500,000 fine and the loss of a sixth-round draft pick for repeatedly violating the league’s protocols earlier this month. Coach Jon Gruden was fined an additional $150,000.
Those punishments were on top of fines previously assessed to Gruden ($100,000) and the Raiders ($300,000) for failure to follow COVID-19 protocols.
