Report: Seahawks accept Harrison’s request for release

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to release Damon Harrison next week after the defensive tackle requested to be released by the team, according to the NFL Network.

Harrison’s request came on the heels of the Seahawks informing him that he would be a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Bryan Mone is expected to serve as Seattle’s reserve defensive tackle for the game.

Harrison appeared to confirm the report in an exchange on Twitter.

“Didn’t want to but it’s time to,” Harrison wrote, when a fan asked him not to leave the team. “I came here to help and I’ve done that and now it’s time to move on. I came back this year to play and that’s all I want. Team is back healthy and playing really’s my time to head out. Still all love and respect for the hawks!”

Harrison, 32, has recorded nine tackles and one forced fumble in six games since signing with the Seahawks in October.

Harrison was a first-team All-Pro selection with the New York Giants in 2016 and has played in 123 games (111 starts) with the New York Jets (2012-15), Giants (2016-18), Detroit Lions (2018-19) and Seahawks. He has 494 tackles, 37 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.
