Report: Texans to sign ex-Jets LB Neville Hewitt

The Houston Texans continue to remain the most active team in free agency this offseason, agreeing to a one-year contract Friday with linebacker Neville Hewitt, his agent told ESPN.

Hewitt has played the last three seasons with the New York Jets, and comes off a career year when he started all 16 games for the first time and led the team with 134 tackles and tied for second with six tackles for loss.

The 28-year-old began his career as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall, signing with the Miami Dolphins in 2015. In three years in Miami, Hewitt started just seven out of his 38 games with the team from 2015-17.

He signed with the Jets before the 2018 season, and broke through in his second season with the team. After an early season injury to starter C.J. Mosley, Hewitt joined the starting lineup for the season’s final 12 games, finishing with 75 tackles and a team-best two interceptions.

In six NFL seasons, Hewitt has posted 352 career tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and three interceptions in 82 games (39 starts).

Including re-signings, the Texans have now inked deals with an NFL-high 35 free agents this offseason, according to Over The Cap.
