Reports: Bills isolate Fromm in case of COVID-19 emergency

Bills rookie quarterback Jake Fromm didn’t practice with his teammates on Wednesday — by the design of Buffalo coaches, multiple outlets reported.

Both The Athletic and The Buffalo News said the Bills are “periodically” keeping Fromm away from his teammates to reduce his risk of exposure to COVID-19. They want Fromm, a fifth-round pick from Georgia in April’s NFL draft, ready to step in should either starter Josh Allen or veteran backup Matt Barkley test positive for the virus.

Coach Sean McDermott told reporters earlier this week that there weren’t plans to keep a quarterback in quarantine.

“We’ll be managing that the best we can and trying to remain smart,” he said.

Fromm, 22, played three seasons at Georgia. He stands fourth all-time for the Bulldogs with 8,224 career passing yards and second all-time with 78 touchdown passes.

As a freshman, he led the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff championship game against Alabama following the 2017 season. He led the Bulldogs to a 13-0 halftime lead, but another freshman quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, led the Crimson Tide to a 26-23 win in overtime.
