Reports: Cowboys OL Collins to have hip surgery, out for season
Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle La’el Collins will have hip surgery and is out for the season, multiple media outlets reported Saturday night.
Collins has been on injured reserve with the injury since the season began but hoped he would be ready when he was eligible to return this week. Instead, he is set to have the surgery Wednesday, per the reports.
Collins, 27, has played in 62 games (61 starts) for the Cowboys, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of LSU in 2015. The Cowboys signed Collins to a five-year, $50 million extension last year with $35 million guaranteed.
Undrafted rookie Terence Steele has started the first three games at right tackle.
The Cowboys are expected to get back left tackle Tyron Smith on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Collins was in a car accident in August but that reportedly did not contribute to the hip injury.
