Reports: Patriots claim TE Thomas off waivers
The struggling New England Patriots continue to look for help and able bodies, and multiple outlets reported Monday that the team has claimed tight end Jordan Thomas off waivers.
Thomas, who was waived by the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, is in his third NFL season after being a sixth-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2018.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that the move would not be announced until Tuesday because the team was playing a Monday night game.
New England was down to one healthy tight end (Ryan Izzo), with Dalton Keene (the only other tight end on the active roster) out with a knee injury. Coach Bill Belichick earlier said rookie defensive end Rashod Berry was considered a backup tight end for the game. Berry played the position for two years at Ohio State.
Thomas had one catch, a 3-yard touchdown, in four appearances for the Cardinals this season. He has 22 receptions for 226 yards and five scores in 25 career games.
Before the game, the Patriots announced they signed defensive Tashawn Bower to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, and activated receiver Kristian Wilkerson and linebacker Terez Hall to the roster from the practice squad.
