Reports: Suspension of Bears WR Wims upheld

Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims lost the appeal of his suspension and will miss the next two games.

Multiple outlets reported Wednesday the NFL upheld Wims’ two-game suspension handed down Monday for sucker-punching New Orleans Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Sunday night.

Wims’ suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct will be without pay. The Bears (5-3) are scheduled to play the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 16.

Following the team’s bye week, Wims will be eligible to return Nov. 29 at Green Bay.

Gardner-Johnson on Monday denied a report that he spat on Wims during the game, prompting the punch and the ensuing on-field fracas.

During the third quarter of the Saints’ 26-23 overtime win, Wims ran over to Gardner-Johnson — who wasn’t guarding him on the play — and hit him twice in the helmet and facemask. A fight broke out and the Bears receiver was ejected.

Wims, 26, has played parts of three seasons with the Bears. In 28 career games (seven starts), he’s caught 27 passes for 253 yards with two touchdowns.
