Reports: Vikings RB Cook out vs. Lions after father dies

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will not play in his team’s regular-season finale this weekend after his father passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported.

Dalvin Cook returned home to Miami after learning that James Cook died at the age of 46, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported. The elder Cook reportedly had been suffering from complications of diabetes.

Dalvin Cook leads the NFL with 1,918 yards from scrimmage.

His 1,557 rushing yards rank second behind Tennessee Titans All-Pro Derrick Henry (1,777), while his 16 rushing touchdowns are tied with New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara for the most in the league.

Cook, 25, also has 44 receptions for 361 yards and a touchdown while playing in 14 games this season for the Vikings (6-9), who visit the Detroit Lions (5-10) on Sunday.

Cook has rushed for 3,661 yards with 33 touchdowns and has 148 catches for 1,275 yards and three scores in 43 career games. He was selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
