Saints re-sign RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire to one-year contract

The New Orleans Saints re-signed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to a one-year contract on Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The native of Baton Rouge, La., and former LSU star joined the Saints in late December and appeared in the final two games of the 2024 season after the Kansas City Chiefs released him. Edwards-Helaire got 13 carries for 46 yards and caught three passes for 24 yards in those games.

Edwards-Helaire, 25, is entering his sixth NFL season after beginning his career with the Chiefs, who picked him No. 32 overall in the first round of the 2020 draft. In 50 career games (32 starts), he has amassed 1,891 yards and 12 touchdowns on 454 rushing attempts and added 92 receptions for 789 yards and seven TDs.

His production has not come close to his rookie season, when he gained 1,100 yards from scrimmage (803 rushing, 297 receiving).

Last year, Edwards-Helaire revealed that he has experienced symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder for over 5 1/2 years. He acknowledged experiencing flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety.
