Seahawks activate starting RT Brandon Shell off COVID list

The Seattle Seahawks activated Brandon Shell off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, paving the way for the starting right tackle to play in Saturday’s wild-card round playoff game against the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

Shell also has battled an ankle injury that has limited him to 11 games, all starts. Shell, who last played in Week 14 against the New York Jets, was slated to return for Seattle’s final regular-season game Sunday but was put on the COVID-19/reserve list last week after a close contact with somebody who tested positive.

“He looks great, should be full speed and ready and we love having him back out there,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said.

Shell is in his first season with Seattle after four seasons with the New York Jets, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2016 draft.

The Seahawks also are expecting the return of guard Mike Iupati, who missed consecutive victories over the Rams and San Francisco 49ers with a neck injury.

The Seahawks (12-4) play host to the Rams (10-6) after he teams split their regular-season series. Seattle won the most recent meeting 20-9 on Dec. 27 at home.
