Seahawks release DE Carlos Dunlap

The Seattle Seahawks have informed defensive end Carlos Dunlap they plan to cut him after only eight games with the team.

The move will save the Seahawks $14 million in cap space for this season.

Dunlap, 32, confirmed the move in a tweet on Monday.

“Thank you Seahawks and to the #12s,” he posted, in part.

Cincinnati traded a disgruntled Dunlap to the Seahawks in October after he agreed to a pay cut for the remainder of the 2020 season. A $3 million roster bonus would have been due to Dunlap early in the new league year as part of his restructured deal.

He started six of eight games for Seattle, recording five of his sacks on the season with the Seahawks. He finished the season with 32 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 18 quarterback hits overall.

Dunlap was selected in the second round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals and went on to play 155 games (115 starts) in Cincy. He made the Pro Bowl twice (2015, 2016).

The Bengals received offensive lineman B.J. Finney and a 2021 seventh-round pick in exchange for Dunlap, who has 87.5 career sacks.
