Steelers C Pouncey placed on COVID list
While the game will finally be played, it appears the Pittsburgh Steelers will be without center Maurkice Pouncey for their Wednesday afternoon game with the visiting Baltimore Ravens.
Pouncey was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list just hours ahead of Pittsburgh’s game with Baltimore on Wednesday, the team announced.
A veteran presence on the offensive line, Pouncey will be replaced in the lineup by rookie JC Hassenauer, who has logged just 26 snaps this season. Pouncey is a seven-time Pro Bowler who has started every one of the 131 career games he has appeared in, including all 10 this season for the 10-0 Steelers.
Pouncey becomes the fourth Pittsburgh player on the COVID list, joining RB James Conner, DE Stephon Tuitt and OT Jerald Hawkins.
Two Pittsburgh assistant coaches, special teams coordinator Danny Smith and quarterbacks coach Matt Canada, have been cleared to coach on Wednesday. Both Smith and Canada were out with an illness designation on Saturday.
The Steelers also elevated running back Wendell Smallwood and offensive lineman Anthony Coyle from the practice squad for the game.
Pittsburgh’s game with the Ravens (6-4) was originally scheduled for Thanksgiving, but has been pushed back several times as Baltimore struggles to contain the COVID-19 outbreak within the organization.
