Tarik Cohen releases statement over death of twin brother

Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen took to social media Monday to release a statement regarding the death of his twin brother, Tyrell, who was found dead in North Carolina over the weekend.

The body of Tyrell Cohen, 25, was found Sunday morning at an electrical substation in Raleigh, N.C. Authorities believe Tyrell Cohen was electrocuted while climbing power equipment at a Duke Energy substation. He was “fleeing from law enforcement,” police said.

“I lost my brother, my twin, myself,” Cohen posted to Twitter on Monday. “What a great man he was. I’m glad I got to express just how much I love him while he was here. God truly call home the best and most worthy.”

Wake County sheriff’s spokesman Eric Curry said Tyrell Cohen fled the scene of a car accident in Raleigh around 2 a.m. Saturday. Authorities couldn’t locate him and called off their search until Cohen’s family filed a missing-person report with the police department later Saturday.

A Duke Energy employee found his body inside the station’s perimeter Sunday morning.

“While we appreciate the condolences thoughts and prayers, we ask that you respect our privacy during this time,” Tarik Cohen also posted Monday. “Let us grieve. Please and thanks. Long live me.”
