Tom Brady making progress in recovery from surgery

Tom Brady has a warning for the rest of the NFL.

He’ll be ready this fall to compete for his eighth Super Bowl ring.

The 43-year-old Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback detailed his recovery from offseason knee surgery Sunday night when he spoke at coach Bruce Arians’ Family Foundation gala.

“I feel pretty good. I don’t know if I could go this week, but we’ll see how things play out,” Brady said, per ESPN. “It’s a long time between now and the beginning of the season, and just be smart about all these different things that we have to do and fulfill. But we all take a lot of pride in being ready to go, and I’m sure we will be.”

Brady’s Buccaneers are one of the nearly 20 NFL teams that have opted out of voluntary offseason workouts because of the continuing coronavirus pandemic. Still, he said he looks forward to informal workouts with teammates when he’s ready.

“We’ve got a lot of hard-working guys, so guys will be anxious to get together and get to work,” Brady said. “As soon as I’m ready to throw, that will be really important for me.”

Brady played in all 16 games last season, leading the Bucs to an 11-5 record in his first season in Tampa Bay after 20 with the New England Patriots. The Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV.
