Carolina Panthers backup defensive end Frank Alexander was suspended without pay for the first four games of the NFL season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Alexander is eligible to return to play Sept. 29 following the Panthers' game against the Ravens.
A fourth-round draft pick out of Oklahoma in 2012, Alexander had 15 tackles and one sack last season in a dozen games and three starts.
He had 2.5 sacks as a rookie
