The Carolina Panthers have deactivated defensive end Greg Hardy.
Hardy has been convicted by a judge of domestic violence assault and played last week.
However, the team made an abrupt change following a week where the NFL was under scrutiny due to the Ray Rice domestic violence case.
Panthers owner Jerry Richardson cried this week when discussing Hardy, saying he's doesn't feel "indifference" to the issue.
Hardy is appealing the verdict and will get a jury trial in November.
The Panthers still have to pay Hardy, their franchise player, a $770,588 game check.
