New England Patriots center Dan Koppen has a broken ankle, but the team will have to determine the extent of the damage before seeing whether or not he is out for the season.
Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald says the club will perform tests on the ankle to see what sort of damage may be done to ligaments and to determine how long Koppen might be out.
Koppen suffered the injury in the season opening 38-24 win over the Miami Dolphins. He has served as the Patriots center since 2003 and has developed a good rapport with quarterback Tom Brady in that time.
“That’s tough,” Brady said. “(Koppen) is the best, and there’s no one like him. He and I have a great chemistry… He’s one of my best friends. Hopefully he’ll be back at some point.”
