The NFL is investigating tampering charges against the New York Jets following remarks by owner Woody Johnson about New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Johnson said "I'd love for Darrelle to come back," during a press conference last month.

Johnson later apologized and called Patriots owner Robert Kraft to say he didn't intend to tamper with Revis.

"I misspoke today when I commented on Darrelle Revis," Johnson said. "I would never interfere in the contractual relationship of a player with another team and should not have used those words."

Here's the NFL tampering policy: "Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club's player to that player's agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of the Anti-Tampering Policy."

Revis has a $20 million option with the Patriots for 2015. He could become a free agent, but is expected to remain with the Patriots.
