Don’t grab the facemask.
The NFL sends that message loud and clear and it was reinforced as New Orleans Saints linebacker Marvin Mitchell has been fined $10,000 for a facemask penalty in last Sunday’s game, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Mitchell got a good hold of the facemask of Carolina’s Mike Goodson on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter. The penalty helped set the winless Panthers up in good field position where they could have won the game with a field goal.
Typically, facemask fines are not this severe. Mitchell can appeal the fine.
