Richard Seymour's hefty $15 million salary for 2012 became guaranteed this past week when the Raiders allowed a deadline for releasing him to pass.

Had the Raiders released Seymour, according to SI.com's Jim Trotter, the defensive lineman would have only made $7.5 million from Oakland and would have become a free agent following a year in which he made the Pro Bowl.

Despite the hefty price tag, new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie and new coach Dennis Allen decided that keeping Seymour in the fold was imperative to the team's plans for next season.
