The Cleveland Browns have signed veteran quarterback Tyler Thigpen, according to a league source.

The Browns attemped to convince quarterback Rex Grossman to sign with them, but a source said he declined their offer.

Now, Thigpen might have to quarterback for the Browns with Johnny Manziel out for the season with a significant hamstring injury and Brian Hoyer dealing with a shoulder injury. Undrafted rookie Connor Shaw is another option for the Browns and is knowledgeable about the offense, but lacks experience.

Thigpen, who was with the Browns during the preseason before being released, has passed for 3,222 career yards, 21 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions for a 72.5 quarterback rating. He also has rushed for 469 yards and three touchdowns.

Thigpen has played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins. He played in college at Coastal Carolina.
