The New York Jets are signing running back Michael Smith, according to a source.
Smith is a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers seventh-round draft pick.
He played collegiately at Utah State.
The 5-foot-9, 205-pounder played one game in 2012 and none last season.
He's returned three kickoffs for 55 yards.
Smith was placed on a injured reserve last seaosn with a foot injury. He was released by the Buccaneers in May.
The Jets have been shorthanded at running back with Bilal Powell with a hamstring injury and Alex Green is sidelined with a chest injury.
