Saints rookie S Smoke Monday confirms torn ACL

New Orleans Saints safety Smoke Monday confirmed he will miss the 2022 season with a torn ACL.

The 22-year-old undrafted rookie from Auburn injured his knee in practice on Tuesday.

“First of all, let me just say that I’d want to thank the Saints organization for providing me the chance of a lifetime to come and showcase my godly ability,” Monday wrote Friday on Instagram. “I just want to set the record straight for anyone who might have any concerns about my knee. I have suffered a torn ACL and will miss the season, but I want everyone to know I’m doing great and in good spirits, and will be having surgery very soon.

“I’m planning to use this time to get healthier and continue to learn the system inside out. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has called to check up on me about my injury. Trust that I’ll be 10 times stronger when I return. God only gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers and I am unquestionably one of them.”

Monday returned three of his five interceptions for touchdowns and added 171 tackles and six sacks in 44 games at Auburn from 2018-21.

Odell Beckham Jr. says torn ACL didn’t occur during Super Bowl

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was believed to have torn his left anterior cruciate ligament during Super Bowl LVI.

Only the free agent doesn’t believe it.

Beckham, who joined the world champion Los Angeles Rams from the Cleveland Browns midway through the 2021 season, tweeted Saturday night that the injury occurred before the big game.

“Krazy thought … really played the whole back half of the season without an acl, and won a super bowl! God doesn’t misss, i swea,” he wrote.

Beckham tore the ACL in the same knee in October 2020 with the Browns, had surgery and returned for the 2021 season. On Nov. 12, the Rams signed him to a one-year deal, a week after he was released by Cleveland amid a deteriorating relationship with quarterback Baker Mayfield.

He left the Rams’ 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13 with what was believed to be a new injury.

During the second quarter, Beckham went to catch a pass but dropped it after jamming his left knee awkwardly. He grabbed at his knee and went down to the turf, with the Rams’ training staff quickly attending to him on the field.

He caught a touchdown in the first quarter for the first score of the game and finished with two catches for 52 yards.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection had 305 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the Rams in eight regular-season games.

He has 531 receptions for 7,367 yards and 56 touchdowns in 96 games (91 starts) with the New York Giants (2014-18), Browns (2019-21) and Rams.

Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff told The Athletic last month that the Rams and Beckham, 29, would like to work out a deal for him to return in 2022.

Report: Torn ACL feared for Rams WR Odell Beckham Jr.

NFL Network reports that Los Angeles Rams receiver Odell Beckham Jr. tore his left ACL in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Beckham, who is entering free agency, would face a lengthy recovery time that could stretch into the 2022 season if the prognosis is confirmed.

Beckham, 29, tore the ACL in the same knee while playing for the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 25, 2020 — also against the Bengals.

During the second quarter of Sunday’s 23-20 win in Inglewood, Calif., Beckham went to catch a pass but dropped it after jamming his left knee awkwardly. He grabbed at his knee and went down to the turf, with Rams training staff quickly attending to him on the field.

He caught a touchdown in the first quarter for the first score of the game and finished with two catches for 52 yards.

“Thank u all for the love and support,” Beckham tweeted after the game. “God always got me. He’s always had a plan. He made me a world champion ! Im so grateful!”

Beckham joined the Rams in November after being waived by the Browns. The three-time Pro Bowler had 305 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the Rams in eight regular-season games, plus 236 yards and a touchdown in three playoff games prior to Sunday.

He has 531 receptions for 7,367 yards and 56 touchdowns in 96 games (91 starts) with the New York Giants (2014-18), Browns (2019-21) and Rams.

Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (ACL) feared out for season

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters that the team believes wide receiver Michael Gallup tore his left ACL Sunday and will be out for the rest of the season.

Gallup will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the extent of his injury.

Gallup twisted around to catch a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter of the Cowboys’ 25-22 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was clear that he was in pain after the play, and he did not return.

The fourth-year receiver finished the game with three catches for 36 yards and the score, upping his season totals to 35 receptions, 445 yards and two touchdowns.

Gallup suffered a calf injury in Week 1 and missed the first half of the season before returning in Week 10.

Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley (3) is helped up after he was injured at Nissan Stadium Monday, Oct. 18, 2021 in Nashville, Tenn.

Report: Titans rookie CB Caleb Farley (ACL) out for season

Tennessee Titans first-round rookie cornerback Caleb Farley sustained a torn ACL in Monday night’s win over the Buffalo Bills and will miss the rest of the season, ESPN said.

An MRI confirmed the diagnosis, per the report. The injury occurred in the second quarter when he collided with teammate Kevin Byard as he attempted to tackle Buffalo receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

This is the latest injury woe for Farley. While at Virginia Tech, he torn an ACL in 2017, then had two back surgeries before being selected No. 22 overall in the draft in April.

He missed three game with the Titans after suffering a shoulder injury before the Week 2 overtime win against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 22-year-old ends his season with four tackles.

The Titans (4-2) host the Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) on Sunday.

Report: Torn ACL feared for Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins

The Baltimore Ravens fear running back J.K. Dobbins suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Saturday night’s preseason finale against the Washington Football Team, NFL Network reported.

The second-year back was scheduled to have an MRI on his left knee Sunday to confirm the initial diagnosis.

Dobbins, 22, was carted to the locker room after sustaining the injury on the opening drive. He was sandwiched by multiple defenders after catching a screen pass and his left leg appeared to get bent backward. He wasn’t able to put any pressure on it and needed help to the sideline.

A second-round pick in 2020, Dobbins rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games (one start) as a rookie.

He also caught 18 passes for 120 yards out of the backfield. He averaged 6.0 yards per carry, the second-highest clip by a rookie over the past 20 seasons, per ESPN. The Saints’ Alvin Kamara averaged 6.1 in his rookie season in 2017.

Gus Edwards is Baltimore’s No. 2 running back and would likely become the Week 1 starter if Dobbins is ruled out for the season.

Report: Seahawks LB Ben Burr-Kirven (ACL) out for season

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven will miss the upcoming season after sustaining a torn ACL, NFL Network reported Monday.

Burr-Kirven was carted off the field after landing awkwardly on his left leg during the opening kickoff of Saturday’s 30-3 preseason loss to the Denver Broncos. The kick actually sailed deep into the end zone for a touchback.

“You just hate to see it anytime, especially on a play that’s a touchback like that in the preseason,” said fullback/linebacker Nick Bellore, Seattle’s special teams captain.

“It’s rough to see, and someone that’s a cornerstone of the special teams and a great linebacker in his own right. It’s awful to see something like that.”

Burr-Kirven, 23, has appeared in all 32 games since being selected by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has recorded 16 tackles and one forced fumble.
