Giants WR Malik Nabers remains out of practice

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is making progress despite being scheduled to sit out practice on Thursday, head coach Brian Daboll told reporters.

Nabers remains in concussion protocol as New York continue its preparations for a road game against Seattle. The Giants (1-3) will travel to the Emerald City on Saturday morning, one day ahead of their game versus the Seahawks (3-1).

Daboll said the team will wait as long as possible before making an official decision on Nabers.

Also on Thursday, Daboll said running back Devin Singletary (groin) would not participate in practice while cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson and Dru Phillips would be limited due to their respective calf injuries.

Nabers was injured while attempting to hold onto the ball along the sideline during a fourth-and-6 play with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in a 20-15 loss to the visiting Dallas Cowboys last Thursday. As he came down, his head hit the ground facemask-first.

Nabers, 21, has a league-high 35 catches for 386 yards and three touchdowns in four games since being selected by New York with the sixth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU.

Fellow wide receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton would be looked upon to pick up the slack should Nabers sit out against the Seahawks.

Giants rework deal of CB Adoree’ Jackson, save $6M on cap

The New York Giants restructured the contract of cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to carve out $5.98 million in cap space, ESPN reported Monday.

The Giants had been the only team in the league with less than $1 million in cap space, per the report. The team has more work to do; the Giants will need as much as $16 million to sign their 2022 draft class.

Jackson, 26, had an interception and eight passes defensed in 13 games (12 starts) for the Giants in 2021, his first season in New York. He started 41 of 46 games for Tennessee after the Titans selected him No. 18 overall in the 2017 draft.

The Titans released him on March 16, 2021, to clear cap space. He signed a three-year, $39 million deal with the Giants the following week.

Giants CB Adoree’ Jackson tests positive for COVID-19

New York Giants cornerback Adoree’ Jackson tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Jackson was expected to miss a third straight game Sunday with a quad injury anyway. But his replacement the past two games, Aaron Robinson, also tested positive and is out for the Week 15 contest against Dallas.

Both Jackson and Robinson are unvaccinated. Jackson became the sixth Giants player to test positive this week and the seventh to go on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Safety Xavier McKinney, also unvaxxed, was placed on the list as a high-risk close contact, a move that would not be warranted if he were vaccinated.

Jackson joins offensive lineman Wes Martin, linebackers Oshane Ximines and Cam Brown, wide receivers John Ross and Kadarius Toney, and Robinson as those who have tested positive. Martin is expected to come out of protocols soon.

The team expects McKinney to test out of the protocols before Sunday, when the Giants (4-9) host the NFC East-leading Cowboys (9-4).

Jackson, 26, has an interception and seven passes defensed to go with 56 tackles in 11 games (all starts) this season. It’s his first season in New York after spending the first four seasons in Tennessee. He was taken No. 18 overall in the 2017 draft by the Titans.

Reports: Titans release CB Adoree’ Jackson, OT Dennis Kelly

The Tennessee Titans are parting ways with cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, releasing the former first-round draft pick Tuesday, multiple outlets reported.

The Titans also released tackle Dennis Kelly, who started all 16 games last season.

Jackson was the No. 18 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Southern California. He played in all 16 games his first two seasons, intercepting two passes in 2018. But he played in just 14 games the past two seasons.

In 2019, Jackson missed the final four games of the regular season with a foot injury but played in three playoff games. Last season, he played just three games (two starts) because of a knee injury.

In 46 career games (41 starts), Jackson has 200 tackles, two interceptions and 33 passes defended.

Kelly, a former fifth-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012 out of Purdue, played 30 games (15 starts) with the Eagles in the first three seasons of his career, then played in 74 games (32 starts) with the Titans in five seasons after he was acquired in a 2016 trade.
