Adrian Peterson asleep at wheel before DWI arrest, per police

Adrian Peterson was found asleep at the wheel before being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Sunday, according to court documents released Tuesday.

Peterson was released on bail from the Fort Bend County jail in Texas on Tuesday. His bond totaled $3,000 for both the DWI charge and the unlawful carrying of a weapon charge.

Sugar Land police officers reported waking up Peterson after responding to a call at a Shell gas station in the Houston suburb around 9 a.m. Sunday. They stated that they woke up Peterson, got him out of his vehicle and offered medical assistance, which was declined. Peterson allegedly said he didn’t know where he was.

The officers allege Peterson had glossy, red eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

Per the court report, Peterson told officers he was trying to drive home from a poker game after only having a few drinks. Officers then said they performed a sobriety test before arresting him on suspicion of DWI.

Afterward, officers reported finding a gun in Peterson’s glove box.

Peterson has now been arrested twice within the past seven months on a similar allegation. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Minneapolis in April.

The 2012 MVP last played in the NFL in 2021. Peterson finished with 14,918 career rushing yards and 120 touchdowns on the ground across 15 seasons, the first 10 with the Minnesota Vikings.

Peterson, 40, attended the Vikings’ draft party on Thursday night at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota State Patrol said Peterson was pulled over at 3:20 a.m. on Friday morning after allegedly driving 83 mph in a 55-mph zone. He failed a breath test, according to law enforcement.

Adrian Peterson ordered to turn over assets to pay debt

Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been ordered by a Houston judge to turn over numerous assets as a means toward paying a debt that is estimated at more than $12 million.

The court-appointed receiver, Robert Berleth, requested this order in July and said Peterson “is known to have numerous assets” at his home in Missouri City, Texas. The Houston judge on Monday ordered constables in Fort Bend County, Texas, to accompany Berleth to Peterson’s residence to keep the peace.

Peterson’s debt issues began when he took out a loan for $5.2 million from a Pennsylvania lending company in 2016. The sum has grown due to interest and attorney’s fees, leading to an $8.3 million judgment against him in 2021.

“No offsets have been made against this judgment to date,” the receiver stated in the July court filing.

Peterson, 39, last played in the NFL during the 2021 season.

A 2012 NFL MVP, four-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Peterson led the league in rushing three times in his 15-year career. He ranks fifth all-time with 14,918 rushing yards to go along with 90 touchdowns during 184 career games (167 starts) with seven teams, most notably the Minnesota Vikings (2007-16).

Adrian Peterson to complete domestic violence, alcohol counseling courses

Star running back Adrian Peterson agreed to complete 20 sessions of domestic violence and alcohol counseling courses over the next six months stemming from an arrest in February, multiple media outlets reported Monday.

Peterson, who is currently a free agent, will not face charges and avoids jail time in the ruling. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office said Peterson agreed to the sessions in a pre-filing hearing that was held Friday.

A former NFL MVP and the fifth-leading rusher in league history, Peterson was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Feb. 13 following an incident that allegedly occurred as his plane was set to depart for Houston. Police were alerted to a “verbal and physical altercation between a male suspect and female victim.”

Peterson’s wife, Ashley, defended him in a social media post the same week, saying he did not strike her. Peterson told Fox 26 in Houston that the couple got into a verbal argument and he attempted to take her ring off her finger.

“I was literally mind-blown that they took me to jail,” Peterson said at the time. “They were like, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. Peterson, but because she had a scratch on her finger, (in) the state of California, we have to take you in.’”

Peterson, 37, was booked and released on $50,000 bond.

The longtime Minnesota Vikings star appeared in three games for the Tennessee Titans and one game for the Seattle Seahawks in 2021.

Report: Los Angeles DA declines to charge Adrian Peterson

The Los Angeles district attorney’s office has declined to charge Adrian Peterson with felony domestic violence, TMZ reported Tuesday.

TMZ cited a rep within the DA’s office.

The case will get sent to the Los Angeles City Attorney, who will review the file and decide whether to bring misdemeanor charges against the seven-time Pro Bowl running back.

Peterson, 36, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday following an incident that allegedly occurred as his plane was set to depart for Houston.

Police were alerted and the plane returned to the gate due to an alleged verbal and physical altercation between a male suspect and female victim.

Police investigated and removed Peterson from the plane. He was later released after posting $50,000 bond.

Peterson told Fox 26 that although he did get into an argument with his wife, Ashley, the incident has been “blown out of proportion.”

“Me and the wife got into an argument on the plane. That was pretty much the gist of it,” Peterson said Monday. “I ended up grabbing her hand and taking her ring off her finger. She didn’t press any charges. The state of California pressed charges because there was a scratch on her hand. Literally that’s why I went to jail, because the ring left a scratch on her finger. We just had a disagreement.

“I don’t hit women.”

Peterson was charged with felony child abuse in 2014 and eventually pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of misdemeanor reckless assault. He was fined, placed on probation and assigned community service. The NFL suspended him for the 2014 season.

Peterson, who spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks this past season, ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,918 career rushing yards. He previously has stated his interest in playing next season.

Adrian Peterson after arrest: ‘I don’t hit women’

Former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson insists he didn’t do anything that warranted Sunday’s arrest in Los Angeles on a felony domestic violence charge.

“I don’t hit women,” the free agent running back told Houston’s Fox 26 on Monday.

Peterson, 36, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport following an incident that allegedly occurred as his plane was set to depart for Houston. Police were alerted and the plane returned to the gate “due to an alleged verbal and physical altercation between a male suspect and female victim,” according to NFL.com.

Police investigated and removed Peterson from the plane. He was later released after posting $50,000 bond.

Peterson told Fox 26 that although he did get into an argument with his wife, Ashley, the incident has been “blown out of proportion.”

“I was literally mind-blown that they took me to jail,” Peterson said. “They were like, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. Peterson, but because she had a scratch on her finger, (in) the state of California, we have to take you in.’ I sit there and watch the plane pull back and take off and I’m just like, ‘Wow! I cannot believe this is happening right now. I’m going to jail, and I literally didn’t do anything.’

“It’s blown out of proportion. Me and the wife got into an argument on the plane. That was pretty much the gist of it. I ended up grabbing her hand and taking her ring off her finger. She didn’t press any charges. The state of California pressed charges because there was a scratch on her hand. Literally that’s why I went to jail, because the ring left a scratch on her finger. We just had a disagreement. I know the headlines: Domestic violence. You’d think I beat her up or something. It was nothing like that.”

Peterson said he hopes the charges will be dropped.

“Only thing I will say is it looks horrible because Adrian Peterson arrested for domestic violence,” Peterson said. “I don’t hit women. It’s not that type of situation, and it just looks bad. I’ll deal with it, and God willing get the charges dropped and move on.”

Report: Seahawks to activate RB Adrian Peterson

The Seattle Seahawks will activate running back Adrian Peterson from the practice squad for Sunday’s game with the visiting San Francisco 49ers, ESPN reported Saturday.

The Seahawks signed the 36-year-old veteran Wednesday, about a week after he was released by the Tennessee Titans.

“Adrian had a good week,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday. “It’s probably hard for people on the outside to understand the impact a guy with his kind of background can make. At a time where we’re battling to try to win a game and get going, he jumped in here and had a remarkable influence on the week.

“With three guys banged up at the spot, we’ll see how it goes on the weekend. He had a really productive week for us, and it was fun having him here.”

Running backs Rashaad Penny (hamstring) and Travis Homer (calf) were both full participants in Friday’s practice, while Alex Collins (abdomen) was a limited participant.

Peterson is the fifth-leading rusher in NFL history with 14,902 yards, including 82 yards on 27 carries in three games with the Titans.

The seven-time Pro Bowl selection and 2012 league MVP is fourth all-time with 119 career rushing touchdowns.

Seattle (3-8) brings a three-game losing streak into the NFC West clash with the 49ers (6-5).
