Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. ‘ready to go’ vs. Chiefs

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. will return from a one-game injury absence to play against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs, coach Frank Reich announced Friday.

“Ready to go,” Reich said on Friday of Pittman, who sat out the Colts’ 24-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend due to a quadriceps injury.

Pittman, 24, caught nine passes for 121 yards and a touchdown in Indianapolis’ season-opening 20-20 tie with the Houston Texans on Sept. 11.

Rookie wideout Alec Pierce is expected to play against the Chiefs after clearing concussion protocol, per Reich.

Pierce, 22, sat out last week’s game after being injured during the season opener against the Texans. He was a second-round pick of the Colts in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Reich also announced three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shaquille Leonard will not make his season debut on Sunday as he works his way back from offseason back surgery.

“Nothing has happened to set it back,” Reich said. “Everything has been positive. We knew it was going to be like this. … Everything has been according to plan. This is a tough injury. He’s handling it the right way. He has the right attitude.”

Colts LB Shaquille Leonard, WR Alec Pierce out vs. Jaguars

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard and rookie wide receiver Alec Pierce have been ruled out of this weekend’s road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, coach Frank Reich said Friday.

Leonard, who underwent back surgery in the offseason, missed the Colts’ 20-20 tie to the Houston Texans last Sunday.

Reich, however, said the three-time Pro Bowl selection was making progress after being a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The Colts held a walkthrough on Friday.

Pierce sustained a concussion during the season opener. The second-round pick did not practice Wednesday and was listed as a limited participant in the following day’s practice.

Per Reich, wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (quadriceps) will be listed as questionable on the injury report.

Pittman sat out practice on Thursday, four days after reeling in nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown in the season opener.

Cornerback Kenny Moore II (hip) and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (hip) will be listed as questionable on the injury report, Reich said.

Colts WR Alec Pierce in concussion protocol

Indianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Alec Pierce is in concussion protocol after experiencing symptoms in the hours following Sunday’s season opener.

Colts head coach Frank Reich said Wednesday that Pierce’s symptoms are mild.

Pierce took a shot in the helmet from Houston Texans rookie safety Jalen Pitre over the middle, forcing the wideout to get his bent face mask swapped out. Pitre was flagged for the hit on Pierce, who went back into the game.

Pierce started the game and played 51 percent of the snaps on offense. He was targeted twice but did not record a catch.

Pierce must clear the five-step protocol before getting cleared by the NFL concussion evaluator in order to play in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
