Panthers activate WR Jalen Coker, OL Austin Corbett from IR

The Carolina Panthers activated wide receiver Jalen Coker and offensive lineman Austin Corbett from injured reserve on Saturday.

Both players are available to play for the Panthers (3-3) in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.(0-6) in East Rutherford, N.J.

Coker, 23, has been sidelined since sustaining a quadriceps injury during practice prior to the season opener.

He played in 11 games (four starts) as a rookie last season and caught 32 of 46 targets for 478 yards and two touchdowns.

Corbett, 30, sustained a left knee injury during Carolina’s 27-22 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 14.

He could draw into the lineup on Sunday should left guard Damien Lewis sit out due to a shoulder injury. Head coach Dave Canales referred to Lewis as a game-time decision for Sunday’s contest.

A Super Bowl champion with the Rams, Corbett has started 69 of the 83 games in which he has played for the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles and the Panthers.

Also on Saturday, the Panthers placed defensive end Patrick Jones II on injured reserve. He suffered a back injury last week that will require season-ending surgery.

Jones, 27, has nine tackles and one sack in four games (all starts) this season.

He has totaled 114 tackles, 13 sacks and one forced fumble in 61 career games (nine starts) with the Minnesota Vikings (2021-24) and the Panthers.

Panthers sign 2 to fill roster spots of injured OL Austin Corbett, Robert Hunt

The Carolina Panthers reached into the practice squads of the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday to fill two roster spots available when starting offensive linemen Austin Corbett and Robert Hunt went on injured reserve.

The Panthers signed former Bengals linebacker Maema Njongmeta and former Ravens center Nick Samac after losing center Corbett (left knee) and right guard Hunt (left biceps) to injuries sustained in Sunday’s road loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Samac, 24, was a seventh-round pick by Baltimore in the 2024 NFL Draft and did not appear in any games. He was waived on Aug. 27 and signed to the practice squad.

Njongmeta, 24, originally an undrafted rookie from Wisconsin, played in 17 games (one start) for the Bengals last year, primarily on special teams. He had 13 tackles.

Cade Mays replaced Corbett and Chandler Zavala replaced Hunt, a Pro Bowl selection in his first season in Carolina in 2024, in the lineup on Sunday.

Panthers C Austin Corbett (biceps) out for season

Carolina Panthers center Austin Corbett will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured biceps tendon.

He sustained the injury during Sunday’s 36-10 loss at Chicago, head coach Dave Canales confirmed Monday.

Corbett, 29, had started the first five games this season, his third campaign with the Panthers.

He has started 67 of his 81 career games with the Cleveland Browns (2018-19), Los Angeles Rams (2019-21) and Carolina.

Cleveland selected Corbett in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Nevada.

Brady Christensen, 28, is listed as the backup center on the depth chart for the Panthers (1-4).

Panthers place DB Jeremy Chinn on IR, activate OL Austin Corbett

The Carolina Panthers placed three players, including defensive back Jeremy Chinn, on injured reserve Tuesday and activated right guard Austin Corbett from the physically unable to perform list.

Chinn (quadriceps), outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring) and tight end Giovanni Ricci (shoulder) will be out at least four weeks after going on the IR.

Corbett has not played in a game since tearing an ACL in the 2022 regular-season finale against the New Orleans Saints. After missing all of training camp and the preseason, he has practiced for the past three weeks. The Panthers (0-6), who are coming off a bye week, have started three different players in his place: Chandler Zavala, Cade Mays and Calvin Throckmorton.

Zavala and Mays also have had to fill in at left guard for starter Brady Christensen, who was lost for the season in Week 1 due to a biceps injury.

Chinn, 25, was injured in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins. He has 23 tackles, including two for loss, and one pass defended in starting all six games. The second-round pick (64th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Southern Illinois has spent his entire career with Carolina.

Corbett, 28, joined Carolina in 2022 and started all 17 games. The Cleveland Browns selected him in the second round (33rd overall) in the 2018 draft out of Nevada, and he also played for the Los Angeles Rams (2019-21).

Gross-Matos, 25, appeared in all six games this season and has 14 tackles, including three for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Ricci, 27, has played for Carolina since 2021 and has appeared in five games this season with one reception for 2 yards.

In other moves, the Panthers signed offensive lineman Brett Toth from the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, signed linebacker Luiji Vilain from the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and released offensive lineman Justin McCray from their practice squad.
