Packers RB Aaron Jones, WR Christian Watson inactive vs. Saints

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, wide receiver Christian Watson, left tackle David Bakhtiari and cornerback Jaire Alexander were ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the visiting New Orleans Saints.

All four players were listed as questionable on Friday by the Packers (1-1), who have a quick turnaround with a home game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

Jones sustained a hamstring injury at the end of his 35-yard touchdown catch-and-run in Green Bay’s 38-20 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sept. 10. He finished with nine carries for 41 yards and a score and two receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Fellow running back A.J. Dillon likely will see a boost in playing time with Jones sidelined for the second straight game.

Watson has yet to make his season debut due to his hamstring injury. He recorded 41 catches for 611 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games (11 starts) as a rookie in 2022.

Bakhtiari is nursing a knee injury. The three-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro first-team selection has made 130 regular season starts for Green Bay, although a knee injury limited him to one start in 2021 and 11 in 2022.

Alexander was added to the Packers’ injury report on Friday with a back injury. The two-time Pro Bowl selection has eight tackles and two pass deflections in two games this season.

The Packers also listed defensive backs Anthony Johnson Jr. and Zayne Anderson as well as offensive guard Elgton Jenkins as inactive.

As for the Saints (2-0), they listed the following as inactive for Sunday’s game: cornerback Paulson Adebo, tight end Foster Moreau, wide receiver A.T. Perry, offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri and defensive lineman Kyle Phillips.

Packers activate WR Sammy Watkins, place Randall Cobb on IR

The Green Bay Packers activated Sammy Watkins off injured reserve and placed fellow wide receiver Randall Cobb on IR on Saturday.

Watkins (hamstring) was added to the injury report and joins offensive tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) in being listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders.

Watkins, 29, was hurt in Week 2 and placed on IR on Sept. 24. He had six receptions for 111 yards in two starts.

Watkins has 354 catches for 5,170 yards and 34 touchdowns in 101 games with the Buffalo Bills (2014-16), Los Angeles Rams (2017), Kansas City Chiefs (2018-20), Baltimore Ravens (2021) and Packers.

Cobb, 32, sustained an ankle injury and was carted to the locker room during the second half of the Packers’ loss to the New York Jets last Sunday.

He has 18 catches for 257 yards in six games (one start) on the season.

Cobb has 609 receptions for 7,425 yards with 52 touchdowns in 148 career games with the Packers (2011-18, 2021-present), Dallas Cowboys (2019) and Houston Texans (2020).

Also on Saturday, the Packers placed center/guard Jake Hanson (biceps) on injured reserve and elevated linebacker La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

Hanson, 25, has appeared in 11 games (one start) with Green Bay.

Hamilton, 24, had three tackles in six games last season with the Packers.

Packers LT David Bakhtiari completes practice, could play vs. Lions

Left tackle David Bakhtiari completed a full practice with the Packers on Friday and could play in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the host Detroit Lions, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said.

Bakhtiari hasn’t played this season and the team wasn’t confident he would be cleared before the playoffs after undergoing a scope on his sore knee on Nov. 23. A two-time All-Pro, Bakhtiari was replaced by guard Elgton Jenkins. But Jenkins is out due to a season-ending ACL tear in Green Bay’s 34-31 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 21.

LaFleur said the Packers want to see how Bakhtiari feels Saturday before deciding his status versus the Lions.

Also questionable is running back Aaron Jones, a limited practice participant all week due to a knee injury.

Cornerback Jaire Alexander participated in the practice but was ruled out. Alexander is working his way back from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Reports: Packers LT Bakhtiari sustains serious knee injury

The Green Bay Packers’ playoff hopes took a hit Thursday when Pro Bowl left tackle David Bakhtiari sustained a serious knee injury in practice, according to multiple media outlets.

The injury is believed to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament, NFL Network reported.

The news comes at a bad time for the playoff-bound Packers (12-3), who would clinch a first-round postseason bye with a Sunday win at Chicago (8-7) or a loss or tie Sunday by the Seattle Seahawks (11-4) against the San Francisco 49ers (6-9).

Bakhtiari missed three games at midseason due to broken ribs, and Billy Turner moved from his normal spot on the right side of the offensive line to man left tackle. Another option to replace Bakhtiari could be second-year left guard Elgton Jenkins, who was just selected to the Pro Bowl.

Bakhtiari, 29, was selected to the Pro Bowl for the third time in his eight-year career this season. Selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2013 draft out of Colorado, he has missed only nine of a possible 127 games. Bakhtiari was selected to the All-Pro team in 2016.

In mid-November, Bakhtiari signed a four-year, $103.5 million contract that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in league history.

Packers’ Bakhtiari becomes highest-paid offensive lineman

Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari confirmed Sunday that he has agreed to a four-year, $103.5 million contract extension.

The deal makes Bakhtiari the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. The $25.875 million average supplants a deal signed by Houston’s Laremy Tunsil that averaged $22 million per season.

The 29-year-old will receive a $30 million signing bonus as part of the deal. He also could earn up to another $2 million in incentives that would push the total to $105.5 million.

Bakhtiari was slated to become a free agent after the season. He was in the final campaign of a four-year, $48 million deal.

“I always wanted to say I was the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history,” Bakhtiari said after the Packers’ 24-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. “Today I get to say that.”

The two-time Pro Bowler has started all 112 games in which he has played since joining the Packers in 2013.

Bakhtiari said the opportunity to remain in Green Bay was important to him.

“That’s something that I really appreciate,” Bakhtiari said. “I do love it here and I love representing the Packers and it’s been a nice match. Something I don’t want to look back at now, but it’s something special to say I spent this much time here.”

Bakhtiari’s deal comes after he returned from a three-game injury absence. He said he was sidelined due to broken ribs.

Bakhtiari was originally a fourth-round draft choice (109th overall) out of Colorado.
