Report: Texans to waive RB Eno Benjamin

The Houston Texans are expected to waive running back Eno Benjamin, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

Benjamin joined the Texans on Nov. 15, one day after being waived by the Arizona Cardinals. He has rushed three times for one yard in two games with Houston.

The move comes on the heels of reports Texans rookie running back Dameon Pierce could to be sidelined with an ankle injury. Pierce leads the team in carries (220), rushing yards (939) and rushing touchdowns (four).

Fellow running backs Rex Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale have combined for 34 carries for 107 yards this season for Houston (1-11-1).

Benjamin, 23, rushed for 299 yards and two touchdowns and had 24 catches for 184 yards in 10 games this season with Arizona. He was a seventh-round draft pick by the Cardinals in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Benjamin had 418 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 21 career games (three starts) for the Cardinals.

Kyler Murray remains day-to-day; Zach Ertz done for season

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that starting quarterback Kyler Murray remains day-to-day with the hamstring injury that parked him in Week 10.

Murray missed Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams after testing out his hamstring in pregame warmups.

Colt McCoy earned the start, but he, too, left the game with a leg injury. Trace McSorley came on to close out the 27-17 win for the Cardinals.

The updates come the same day the team reportedly released backup running back Eno Benjamin and amid a report that starting tight end Zach Ertz (leg) is out for the rest of the season.

Kingsbury said the team wants Murray to be able to go full bore on the field before bringing him back. However, McCoy’s leg was “a little better” Monday, making him a question mark heading into this week’s prime time contest against division rival San Francisco this week.

McCoy threw for 238 yards and a touchdown against the Rams without a turnover.

Murray, 25, has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,168 yards, with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. He’s also rushed for 359 yards and two scores.

Benjamin, 23, started three games earlier this season when James Conner was injured. However, he played just one offensive snap against the Rams.

“it was time to give him (James Conner) the starting running back reps,” Kingsbury said Monday.

Benjamin rushed for 299 yards and two TDs in 10 games this season. Benjamin was a seventh-round draft pick by the Cards in the 2020 draft.

Kingsbury didn’t provide an update on tight end Zach Ertz, who was carted off Sunday after sustaining the leg injury. However, NFL Network reported Ertz is done for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Ertz finishes with 47 catches for 406 yards and four TDs in 10 games.

The Cardinals (4-6) host the 49ers (5-4) on “Monday Night Football” in Week 11.

Cardinals RBs James Conner ailing, Darrel Williams out

The Arizona Cardinals running back corps is looking more like a proverbial M*A*S*H unit heading into Week 6.

The status of starter James Conner (rib) is unclear as the practice week begins while third-string RB Darrel Williams already has been ruled out for this week with a knee sprain.

Only Eno Benjamin and fourth-stringer Keaontay Ingram are healthy heading into Sunday’s divisional contest against the Seahawks in Seattle.

The club signed running backs Ty’Son Williams and Corey Clement to the practice squad this week.

Further, RB Jonathan Ward, who had only played on special teams so far this season, is heading for injured reserve with a hamstring injury, according to NFL Network.

Conner suffered his injury last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. He rushed nine times for 55 yards but played just 24 snaps. He leads the Cardinals with 200 yards rushing on the season. He’s considered day-to-day and his status will become clearer later in the week.

Williams was limited to eight offensive snaps vs. the Eagles, rushing three times for nine yards.

Benjamin played 37 snaps and carried the ball eight times for 25 yards and a touchdown. He has 136 yards rushing on the season.

The Cardinals (2-3) will hold a walkthrough on Wednesday instead of a full practice ahead of the game against the Seahawks (2-3).
