Report: 49ers unlikely to trade Brandon Aiyuk before bonus due

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is expected to remain with the team on Tuesday, which grants him a $22.85 million bonus, ESPN reported.

Per the report, Aiyuk is not expected to be traded before Tuesday. He will remain with San Francisco for the 2025 season once the bonus has been paid.

The 49ers traded wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders on March 1 in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick.

Aiyuk, 27, recorded 25 catches for 374 yards and no touchdowns in seven games before his season ended after sustaining an ACL and MCL injury in his right knee against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 20.

A second-team All-Pro selection in 2023, Aiyuk staged an offseason holdout before accepting a four-year, $120 million contract extension in late August.

Aiyuk has 294 receptions for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns in 69 career games (67 starts) since the 49ers selected him with the 25th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Reports: 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) out for the season

San Francisco 49ers standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and is done for the season, according to multiple media reports on Monday.

NFL Network reported that an MRI on Monday confirmed the ACL and MCL injuries to the right knee, which occurred in the final minute of the first half of the 28-18 home defeat.

Aiyuk had two receptions for 23 yards before departing. He was injured when he caught a 15-yard pass and was hit by two Kansas City defenders, with the blow from Chamarri Conner causing Aiyuk’s right leg to bend backward.

The 26-year-old Aiyuk has 25 catches for 374 yards and hasn’t caught a touchdown pass in seven starts this season for the 49ers (3-4). A second-team All-Pro selection in 2023, he staged an offseason holdout before accepting a four-year, $120 million contract extension in late August.

San Francisco selected Aiyuk 25th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. He has 294 career catches for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns in 69 regular-season games (67 starts).

49ers GM: Brandon Aiyuk ‘is a special talent’

The San Francisco 49ers on Friday announced wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk signed a four-year extension through the 2028 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the 49ers, however multiple media outlets reported the extension is worth $120 million.

ESPN reported the deal includes $76 million guaranteed, with $47 million to be paid to Aiyuk prior to April 1, 2025.

“We were thrilled to draft Brandon in 2020 and are now equally excited to have him in the fold for years to come,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said. “Brandon is a special talent who is a warrior on the field and plays with a passion that we look for in 49ers. We look forward to Brandon continuing to be part of what we strive to accomplish as an organization.”

Aiyuk publicly had requested a trade out of San Francisco, garnered interest from multiple teams and conducted a “hold-in” at 49ers practices. The Pittsburgh Steelers were among the front-runners to acquire Aiyuk in a trade and had permission to discuss a long-term contract offer with the 26-year-old.

Aiyuk long contended that he deserved more contract security through a lucrative extension, saying in March that he is “trying to get what I deserve.”

He received that security Thursday, tying Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill for the fifth-highest average annual value among receivers at $30 million per year. Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings has the highest average annual salary of $35 million.

Before the extension, Aiyuk was scheduled to earn $14.124 million in 2024 on the fifth-year team option linked to his rookie deal.

Aiyuk topped the 49ers with 75 receptions and 1,342 yards and caught seven touchdowns in 16 games in 2023. He has 269 catches for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns in 62 career games (60 starts). He earned second-team All-Pro honors.

The standoff between Aiyuk and the Niners looked dire as recently as Wednesday.

“I’m not going to get into our communication again,” Lynch said Wednesday. “At some point, you gotta play.”

Settling the contract dispute could mean Aiyuk will be ready to play in the 49ers’ season opener on Sept. 9 against the New York Jets.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk remains out amid contract dispute

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was not on the field again during the early portion of practice Thursday amid what continues to be a contentious contract holdout.

With training camp and the preseason now complete, the sense of urgency has intensified for Aiyuk to return with the season opener set for Sept. 9 at home against the New York Jets.

Aiyuk has long contended that he has earned more contract security through a lucrative extension, saying in March that he is “trying to get what I deserve.”

The No. 25 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk is scheduled to earn $14.124 million in 2024 on the fifth-year team option linked to his rookie deal.

Aiyuk, 26, topped the 49ers with 75 receptions and 1,342 yards and caught seven touchdowns in 16 games in 2023. He has 269 catches for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns in 62 career games (60 starts).

Reports have indicated there has been interest from other clubs like the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. Those reports indicate that the Steelers and Browns are set to deliver on a contract extension in a potential trade.

Yet there remains no resolution to the standoff.

“I’m not going to get into our communication again,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said about the matter Wednesday. “At some point, you gotta play.”

Said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan: “I haven’t heard anything. I’ve been working on the 53-(man roster) and the practice squad. I haven’t talked to him. I know he’s been cleared by our doctors so I hope that he’s out there practicing.”

With medical clearance complete, the 49ers can now enact fines and/or a suspension against Aiyuk for refusing to participate in practices.

49ers GM John Lynch expects WR Brandon Aiyuk to stay long-term

With the price of doing business with No. 1 wide receivers on the rise in the NFL, 49ers general manager John Lynch reiterated his position on paying Brandon Aiyuk in the near future.

“Our wish is he’s here and part of the Niners for the rest of his career,” Lynch said in a pre-draft press conference on Monday. “We’re focused on B.A. being part of us.”

Aiyuk isn’t attending voluntary workouts and Lynch said there have been calls from general managers about the availability of Aiyuk and others. For now, the 49ers “wouldn’t anticipate” a move this week involving Aiyuk being traded to a new team.

When the sides will engage again on contract negotiations is unclear.

The 25-year-old Aiyuk was named second-team All-Pro in 2023 and is due $14.1 million in 2024, the fifth-year option on his rookie deal with free agency coming up next March.

The 49ers traded up to draft Aiyuk 25th overall in 2020 and he has 15 total touchdowns the past two seasons. He had 75 receptions for 1,342 yards with seven touchdowns in 2023.

San Francisco has committed top dollar to key playmakers from wide receiver Deebo Samuel to running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle, with a massive deal coming quarterback Brock Purdy’s way soon, too.

By this time next year, Purdy could be cashing more than $50 million per season based on the current QB contract market.

That creates questions about whether one of those playmakers — or Aiyuk — might have to relocate for the 49ers to maintain financial harmony.

Samuel is scheduled to make $20.97 million in 2024 and Kittle’s base salary is scheduled to increase from $1.080 million last season to over $13 million.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk: ‘Trying to get what I deserve’

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has seen his game elevate and the results follow over the last few seasons.

With that in mind, Aiyuk said he wants to be paid handsomely on a new long-term contract.

“I’m trying to get what I deserve,” Aiyuk said Thursday during an appearance on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.

“I feel like this season, this season playing football, I figured out who I was as a person and a player, what I bring to the table, what I bring to the locker room, what I bring to the organization. And just the value I hold when I walk in that building. People going to follow me because I’ve done it the right way since I’ve been in that building.

“From the first day I walked in there to when I was in there earlier this morning. I’ve done it the right way. If they don’t see the worth in that (makes a walking motion with hands), that’s all it is. It ain’t nothing else besides that. I can’t get into it. We got professionals working on both sides, so hopefully, we can come to a professional agreement and continue playing professional football.”

Aiyuk, 26, didn’t delve into a specific amount of money that he is seeking with his next contract. He will receive $14.124 million in 2024 while playing on the fifth and final year of his contract.

Aiyuk recorded 75 catches for a career-high 1,342 yards to go along with seven touchdowns in 16 games (all starts) last season. He has 269 receptions for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns in 62 career games (60 starts) since being selected by San Francisco with the 25th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk returns to practice; Deebo Samuel sits out

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was back at practice on Monday after being inactive for the 49ers’ home victory over the New York Giants last Thursday night, but fellow star wide receiver Deebo Samuel did not practice.

Aiyuk suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2 on his first catch against the Los Angeles Rams. He finished with 43 yards in a 30-23 road victory.

In Week 1, Aiyuk caught eight passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns at Pittsburgh in the 49ers’ 30-7 victory.

Aiyuk, 25, was a first-round pick (25th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Arizona State.

Samuel (ribs) was held out of Monday’s on-field workouts after playing a big role in the win over the Giants.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said on Friday the minor injury wasn’t expected to keep Samuel out too long.

“(He’s) pretty sore, so it’ll be day-to-day,” Shanahan said.

Samuel was hurt in the fourth quarter following a 19-yard reception.

“I actually fell on the ball and I thought it was my ribs,” Samuel said after the game. “I think the wind got knocked out of me. But after going in the tent, everything checked out fine and I was good.”

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw, listed day-to-day with an ankle injury, did not practice on Monday.

The 49ers (3-0) host the Arizona Cardinals (1-2) Sunday.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) inactive vs. Giants

San Francisco wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is inactive for the 49ers’ home game against the New York Giants on Thursday night.

Aiyuk was listed as questionable for the game because of a shoulder injury sustained Sunday on his first reception against the Los Angeles Rams. He went on to make two more catches and finished with 43 yards in a 30-23 road victory.

He has gotten off to a strong start this season, earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his effort in a 30-7 win at Pittsburgh in Week 1. Aiyuk made eight catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

San Francisco also made cornerback Ambry Thomas inactive after he injured a knee against the Rams. Thomas, 24, started both games this season and has eight tackles.

The 49ers on Thursday activated wide receiver Chris Conley as well as cornerbacks Tre Swilling and Shemar Jean-Charles from the team’s practice squad to the active roster. The team released cornerback Anthony Brown.

Aiyuk, 25, was a first-round pick (25th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. In his fourth season with the 49ers, he has started 46 of 48 games and has 205 receptions for 2,761 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also has rushed 13 times for 117 yards and two scores.
