Eagles’ Pro Bowl G Brandon Brooks announces retirement

Three-time Pro Bowl guard and Super Bowl LII champion Brandon Brooks of the Philadelphia Eagles announced his retirement Wednesday after two injury-marred seasons.

Brooks, 32, missed the entire 2020 season with a torn Achilles tendon and played only two games in 2021 before landing on injured reserve with a pectoral strain.

“How do you say goodbye to something you’ve known your whole life,” Brooks said. “Something that taught you triumph, pain, success, failure, perseverance, love, empathy and altruism. I don’t know, but I’ll try my best. Yes, after 10 years in this game, it’s true I am retiring.”

Brooks played his first four seasons (2012-15) with the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the third round in 2012 out of Miami (Ohio).

He signed a five-year, $40 million deal with Philadelphia in free agency in March 2016. He signed a four-year, $54.2 million extension in November 2019.

Brooks made the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons with the Eagles from 2017-19 and finished his career with 114 games played (108 starts).

“I attacked my rehab with intensity and passion — I always do — but making it back this season just wasn’t in the cards,” he said. “It didn’t end the way I would have like it, but to me it’s never about the ending. It’s about the journey. I was fortunate enough to go on this journey with a group of brothers, not teammates but family.”

Eagles place DE Brandon Graham, G Brandon Brooks on IR

The Philadelphia Eagles placed defensive end Brandon Graham and guard Brandon Brooks on injured reserve Tuesday.

The Eagles also signed guard Jack Anderson off the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.

Graham will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a torn Achilles during the first half of Philadelphia’s 17-11 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Graham, 33, is coming off a Pro Bowl season after recording eight sacks last season and 16.5 the past two. He has played in 161 games (104 starts), all for the Eagles, since being taken No. 13 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Veteran Ryan Kerrigan likely will see more playing time in place of the injured Graham, who has been a mainstay on a defensive line riddled with injuries the past two seasons.

Brooks sustained a pectoral injury in the loss to the 49ers.

Brooks, 32, had started every game for the Eagles from 2017-2019, earning Pro Bowl honors each season. He has started 108 of 114 games he’s played in since being taken in the third round of the 2012 draft by the Houston Texans.

Rookie lineman Landon Dickerson likely will get the start for the Eagles (1-1) on Monday against the Dallas Cowboys (1-1).

Anderson was a seventh-round pick of the Bills in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Eagles OL Brandon Brooks (pec) headed to IR

Philadelphia Eagles three-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Brooks has a strained pectoral muscle and is headed for short-term injured reserve.

The team feared the muscle was torn, which would have ended his season. He’ll have to miss at least three weeks on IR.

Head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed the injury on Monday along with a status report on Brandon Graham.

The Pro Bowl defensive end is done for the season after rupturing his left Achilles during Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

“We’re gonna miss BG. He’s the heart and soul of this team,” Sirianni said.

Brooks, 32, who has been a mainstay on an offensive line riddled with injuries the past two seasons, was injured on the first play of the second quarter and didn’t return.

Graham suffered his injury late in the first half.

Brooks had started every game for the Eagles the past three seasons, earning Pro Bowl honors each season. He has started 108 of 114 games he’s played in since being taken in the third round of the 2012 draft by the Houston Texans.

Graham, 33, is coming off a Pro Bowl season after recording eight sacks last season and 16.5 the past two. He has played in 161 games (104 starts), all for the Eagles, since being taken No. 13 overall in the 2010 draft.

Linebacker Davion Taylor is day-to-day with a calf injury.

The Eagles (1-1) play the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) on Monday night in Week 3.
