Reports: Colts releasing WR Breshad Perriman

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly cutting wideout Breshad Perriman, a former first-round draft pick.

Multiple outlets reported Monday on the impending release of Perriman, who signed with the Colts in June.

Perriman, who turns 30 on Sept. 10, caught four passes for 34 yards during the preseason.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Perriman with the 26th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

He has 145 receptions for 2,343 yards and 16 touchdowns in 80 games (25 starts) with the Ravens (2016-17), Cleveland Browns (2018), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019, 2021-22) and New York Jets (2020).

NFL teams have until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to reduce their rosters to 53 players.

Bucs to elevate WR Breshad Perriman to active roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will promote Breshad Perriman from the practice squad to take the roster spot of fellow wide receiver Antonio Brown, the former’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said Friday.

Brown will serve a three-game suspension for providing false vaccination information to both the Buccaneers and the NFL.

Perriman, 28, had two receptions for 19 yards in Tampa Bay’s 30-10 victory over the New York Giants on Nov. 22.

A first-round pick of Baltimore in the 2015 NFL Draft, Perriman has 127 catches for 2,085 yards with 14 touchdowns in 65 career games with the Ravens, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Buccaneers.

Brown, 33, has 29 receptions for 418 yards and four touchdowns in five games this season. He was likely to miss at least the next two games anyway with a lingering ankle/heel injury.

Bucs activate Sean Murphy-Bunting from IR, elevate Breshad Perriman

Ahead of Monday night’s home game against the New York Giants, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers activated cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting and long snapper Zach Triner from injured reserve.

Tampa Bay also elevated wide receiver Breshad Perriman to the active roster. All three players are eligible to play Monday.

Murphy-Bunting hasn’t played since he suffered a dislocated right elbow during the season opener in September against the Dallas Cowboys. In his first two NFL seasons, Murphy-Bunting played all 32 games, starting 23, and recorded 116 tackles, 11 pass breakups and four interceptions — including one he returned for a touchdown as a rookie.

Notably, he grabbed an interception in each of the Buccaneers’ first three playoff games in 2020 on their way to a Super Bowl victory.

Triner also has not played since Week 1 due to a torn tendon in his finger. Like Murphy-Bunting, Triner did not miss a game in his first two seasons, both with Tampa Bay.

Perriman has made one appearance in 2021 for the Bucs in his second stint with the team. He participated in two snaps in their Week 9 loss to Washington.

The Bucs signed Perriman in November after he was waived by the Chicago Bears. He never saw the field for Chicago after previous stops with the Baltimore Ravens (2016-17), Cleveland Browns (2018), Buccaneers (2019) and New York Jets (2020).

Bucs sign veterans Darren Fells, Breshad Perriman to practice squad

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed tight end Darren Fells and wide receiver Breshad Perriman to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Fells, 35, was released by the Detroit Lions on Monday as he sought more playing time in his ninth NFL season.

He played in seven games (five starts) this season with Detroit, catching four passes for 43 yards. He was inactive for the Lions’ most recent game, a 44-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 31 that dropped Detroit to 0-8.

Fells signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Lions in June, per Spotrac.

Fells has 127 career receptions for 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns in 109 games (81 starts) with the Arizona Cardinals (2014-16), Lions (2017, 2021), Cleveland Browns (2018) and Houston Texans (2019-20).

It’s a return to the Buccaneers for Perriman, who was released by the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The 28-year-old joined the Bears in September after the Lions released him, and he has been inactive for every game this season.

A first-round pick by Baltimore in 2015, Perriman has tallied 125 receptions for 2,066 yards and 14 touchdowns in 63 career games with the Ravens (2016-17), Cleveland Browns (2018), Bucs (2019) and New York Jets (2020).

Perriman set career highs in receptions (36), receiving yards (645) and receiving touchdowns (six) in his one season with Tampa Bay in 2019.

The Buccaneers released wide receiver John Hurst and tight end Deon Yelder from the practice squad.

Report: Bears releasing veteran WR Breshad Perriman

The Chicago Bears plan to release wide receiver Breshad Perriman ahead of Monday night’s game in Pittsburgh, ESPN reported Sunday.

The move could clear the way for the Bears (3-5) to activate running back David Montgomery from injured reserve to face the Steelers (4-3).

Perriman, 28, joined the Bears in September after being released by the Detroit Lions. He has been inactive every game this season.

A first-round pick by Baltimore in 2015, Perriman has tallied 125 receptions for 2,066 yards and 14 touchdowns in 63 career games with the Ravens (2016-17), Cleveland Browns (2018), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019) and New York Jets (2020).

Montgomery was designated to return from injured reserve on Thursday and practiced for the first time since spraining his left knee in Week 4.

Despite missing four games, Montgomery still leads Chicago with three rushing touchdowns and ranks second with 309 rushing yards behind rookie Khalil Herbert (351).

Montgomery, 24, has rushed for 2,268 yards and 17 touchdowns and caught 85 passes for 672 yards and three TDs in 35 games since the Bears drafted him in the third round in 2019.

Bears sign WR Breshad Perriman

The Chicago Bears signed veteran wide receiver Breshad Perriman on Monday.

The Bears waived linebacker Josh Woods in a corresponding move.

Perriman, who turns 28 on Friday, was released by the Detroit Lions last week.

“Big-time speed,” said general manager Ryan Pace. “We’ve talked about him, I feel like, every year. We’ve gone back and looked at our grades. (Speed) has been the one trait. He’s big. He’s 6-2. He can still run and that’s just continuing the speed and explosiveness in this offense.”

Perriman caught 30 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games (all starts) last season for the New York Jets. He has 125 career catches for 2,066 yards and 14 TDs with four teams since being selected No. 26 overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2015 draft.

The Bears open the season Sunday at the Los Angeles Rams.

Report: Lions release WR Breshad Perriman

The Detroit Lions on Monday released wide receiver Breshad Perriman, an offseason free-agent signee, ESPN reported.

The Lions signed Perriman to a one-year, $2.5 million deal with $2 million in guaranteed money on March 18 in hopes he’d headline a young group of receivers.

Instead, he struggled in the preseason, battling through a hip injury. He had one catch for six yards in preseason game action.

Now, the Lions have a wide receiver room that includes Tyrell Williams, Quintez Cephus, rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown, Tom Kennedy, Javon McKinley and Kalif Raymond looking to solidify their spots before NFL teams make final roster cuts. The deadline to get down to the 53-player roster limit is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Lions coach Dan Campbell foreshadowed Perriman’s release last week, saying “there just hasn’t been enough out there” from him.

Perriman, 28 next month, has been well-traveled since the Baltimore Ravens selected him with the No. 26 overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. In 63 games (22 starts) with the Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, Perriman has 125 receptions for 2,066 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He appeared in 12 games last season with the Jets, catching 30 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns.

Jets WRs Crowder, Perriman ruled out vs. Colts

New York Jets wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman have been ruled out for this weekend’s road game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Joining Crowder (hamstring) and Perriman (ankle) as inactive for the Week 3 game is right tackle George Fant, who is in concussion protocol after a collision in Wednesday’s practice.

Wideouts Chris Hogan, Braxton Berrios and Josh Malone are expected to see the majority of work against the Colts (1-1).

The Jets (0-2) enter Week 3 by averaging an NFL third-worst 187.5 passing yards per game and a league-worst 265.5 yards of total offense.

Jets’ top WR duo likely out Sunday vs. Colts

New York Jets coach Adam Gase is looking to “whoever’s got a pulse” to play wide receiver in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Top wideout Jamison Crowder (hamstring) is expected to miss his second consecutive game, Breshad Perriman (ankle) didn’t practice Thursday and likely will miss at least two games, and Chris Hogan (ribs) was limited in practice, but is expected to play Sunday. Perriman was injured last week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims is already on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

“Whoever’s got a pulse right now, we’re ready to go,” Gase said Thursday.

Hogan, Braxton Berrios and Josh Malone are expected to be the starting WRs Sunday. Lawrence Cager could get a call-up from the practice squad.

Le’Veon Bell is on injured reserve, with veteran Frank Gore getting elevated at running back.

Further, right tackle George Fant is in the concussion protocol after a collision in Wednesday’s practice and center Connor McGovern (hamstring) has not practiced. Tackle Mekhi Becton (shoulder) has been limited. All three starters are questionable for the game.

As it is, the Jets enter Week 3 with the second-worst passing offense in the NFL at 394 total passing yards after two games.
