Aaron Rodgers passes Brett Favre on all-time TD list

Aaron Rodgers passed former Green Bay Packers teammate Brett Favre on the all-time passing touchdown list on Sunday, moving into sole possession of fourth place with 509 and counting.

The Steelers quarterback set the mark early in the second quarter of Pittsburgh’s game with the New England Patriots, connecting with DK Metcalf from 12 yards out to give his team a 14-0 lead.

That TD moved him ahead of Favre, who wrapped up his career with 508.

Rodgers is 30 touchdowns behind No. 3 on the list, Peyton Manning (539), but the 41-year-old would have to do some serious work to catch the other leaders. Drew Brees sits in second with 571, while Tom Brady holds the career record with 649.

A 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time All Pro, Rodgers compiled the bulk of his touchdowns in a Super Bowl-winning, 18-year run with Green Bay. He played for the New York Jets in 2023-24 before joining the Steelers this offseason.

Brett Favre reveals Parkinson’s diagnosis at congressional hearing

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre revealed Tuesday at a hearing on federal welfare reform that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Favre, 54, spoke before the House Ways and Means Committee in Washington.

The one-time Super Bowl champion and three-time NFL MVP addressed the need for “guardrails” when it comes to dispersing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds before revealing his diagnosis when discussing Prevacus, a now-defunct drug company that had Favre as an investor.

“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others,” Favre said in his prepared testimony. “As I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me — because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s — this is also a cause dear to my heart.”

Per the Mayo Clinic, Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time.

According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, over 1 million people in the United States live with the disease, and nearly 90,000 are diagnosed annually.

An 11-time Pro Bowl selection, Favre threw for 71,838 yards with 508 touchdowns and 336 interceptions in 302 career games (298 starts) with the Atlanta Falcons (1991), Green Bay Packers (192-2007), New York Jets (2008) and Minnesota Vikings (2009-10).

Reports: Brett Favre filings suits, seeking dismissal in welfare case

Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre made further waves in the Mississippi welfare scandal this week, filing paperwork to have the lawsuit filed against him dismissed while also drawing up his own lawsuit against three individuals for defamation, according to multiple reports.

Favre, who played college football at Southern Miss, has been accused of misspending millions of dollars in Mississippi welfare money — including earmarking money for his alma mater to build a volleyball facility — with the state seeking to recoup those funds via legal action.

Favre’s legal team filed the request for dismissal on Friday, per CNN and other reports.

Multiple outlets also reported that Favre has also filed suit against sports commentators Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe as well as Mississippi auditor Shad White, with those defamation suits dropping Thursday.

McAfee commented on the lawsuit publicly on his show Friday, saying in part, “I’m getting sued by Brett Favre … The quotes that were in that lawsuit are certainly accurate. But there’s one word I believe that was said often on this particular program if you watch at all, and that would be ‘allegedly.’”

In October, Favre, 53, denied any wrongdoing, despite multiple released text messages indicating potential knowledge of the situation.

“No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me,” Favre said. “I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university.”

Text messages showed that Favre discussed the potential outcome should funding diverted to his projects become public with Nancy New, the founder of the Mississippi Community Education Center. New has pleaded guilty to 13 felony counts of bribery, fraud and racketeering for her role.

New had been charged with spending millions in federal welfare funds earmarked to help the state.

“If you were to pay me is there anyway the media can find out where it came from and how much?” Favre asked New in 2017.

Favre, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, retired from the NFL following the 2010 NFL season.

State of Mississippi suing Brett Favre, others over welfare funds

A civil lawsuit has been filed in Mississippi that attempts to recoup lost welfare money earmarked to address poverty, and former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is among 38 entities named in the suit.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services is suing Favre, as well as three former pro wrestlers, as it attempts to recover millions of misspent welfare dollars.

Favre, a longtime Mississippi resident, received $1.1 million from the state agency in exchange for speeches and public appearances that were never delivered. The Hall-of-Famer paid back the full amount, but the state remains committed to collecting interest, which amounts to $228,000.

The three wrestlers in question, Brett DiBiase, Ted DiBiase Sr. (aka “The Million Dollar Man”) and Ted DiBiase Jr., ran an organization called “Heart of David Ministries Inc.,” which received $1.7 million in grant money in 2017-18.

The lawsuit was filed shortly after Nancy New and Zachary New, a mother and son who ran a nonprofit group charged with misspending, pled guilty to state criminal charges and reached an agreement to testify against others.

Aaron Rodgers passes Brett Favre for Packers’ TD record

Aaron Rodgers became the Green Bay Packers’ all-time leader in passing touchdowns Saturday, vaulting over legend Brett Favre with his 443rd career scoring strike.

Rodgers’ record came on an 11-yard pass to Allen Lazard with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter against the Cleveland Browns at historic Lambeau Field.

Rodgers, 38, set the record in his 17th season and 211th game in Green Bay, while Favre set the previous Packers record in 16 seasons over 255 games. Rodgers was Favre’s backup over his first three seasons (2005-07), when he saw action in just seven games total with one TD pass.

Rodgers pushed the total to 445 with two more TD passes in the second quarter, both to Davante Adams, as Green Bay took a 21-12 lead into halftime.

Rodgers has led the Packers to the top record in the NFC at 11-3, heading into play Saturday. The former first-round draft pick in 2005 out of Cal entered Saturday’s game with 3,487 yards passing in 13 games this season with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Brett Favre: Keep kids out of tackle football until age 14

Legendary NFL quarterback Brett Favre is urging parents to keep their children out of tackle football until high school because of the risks of CTE.

A public-service announcement starring Favre on behalf of the Concussion Legacy Foundation was released Tuesday.

It shows a young boy, wearing a green jersey with Favre’s No. 4, telling his parents what he learned about CTE and telling them not to let him play tackle football until he is 14. Through the course of the minute-long ad, the boy grows to a high school senior discussing how he could have already developed CTE, and ends with him morphing into Favre discussing how adults with CTE could have symptoms including depression, memory lapse and anger.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, is caused by repeated traumatic brain injuries. It can’t be diagnosed until after death. Ken Stabler, like Favre a Hall of Fame quarterback, is among the many players to have been diagnosed with CTE after his death.

Favre, 51, appeared Tuesday on “Today” to discuss the ad, as well as how he feels after 20 seasons in the NFL, most notably with the Green Bay Packers.

“I don’t know what normal feels like. Do I have CTE? I really don’t know,” Favre said. “Concussions are a very, very serious thing and we’re just scraping the surface of how severe they are.”

Favre is the father of two daughters and the grandfather of three boys, ages 11, 7 and 4. He said they haven’t expressed a desire to play football and he won’t push them to follow in his footsteps.

“If they choose to play, I will support them, but I’m not going to encourage them in any way to play,” he said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report this year that said kids were 15 times more likely to sustain “head impact” if they took part in tackle sports, and encouraged non-contact and flag football programs until age 14.

Favre won three league Most Valuable Player awards and was selected to 11 Pro Bowls during his career (1991-2000) with the Packers, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.

Brett Favre doesn’t expect Aaron Rodgers to play for Packers again

Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre believes the reported schism between Aaron Rodgers and the franchise is real, and big enough that it is a long shot Rodgers will ever suit up for the legendary franchise again.

Reports leaked on the first day of the NFL Draft that Rodgers was miffed with the Packers, specifically their front office, and told some within the organization he’d never play for them again. In a radio interview with ESPN Wisconsin, Favre said he wasn’t optimistic Rodgers would return.

“I think I know Aaron fairly well,” Favre said, “and honestly I just don’t see him coming back and just saying, ‘All right, let’s just bury the hatchet, whatever caused the rift, and I’m just going to come back and play because I love the guys, I love the Green Bay fans’ — I assume he does — but his rift isn’t with the fans or the players. It’s with the front office. Will he just swallow his pride and come in? Maybe. But I don’t see that happening.”

Favre even envisioned how the situation will unfold.

“If there’s not a trade, my gut tells me that he’d rather sit out than play. That’s just my gut,” Favre said. “There’s no reason for me to say that other than that’s what my gut’s telling me, and I think you guys know Aaron fairly well enough to sort of feel the same way.”

Publicly, the Packers have committed to Rodgers being their quarterback in 2021 and beyond. The reigning league MVP led the Packers to a Super Bowl XLV victory in February 2011, but they haven’t been back to the title game since.

Among Rodgers’ reported grievances are that the Packers selected a quarterback, Jordan Love, in the first round of the 2020 draft rather than a wide receiver, and that he felt slighted that the team released receiver Jake Kumerow one day after he praised Kumerow in an interview.

Favre was in a similar situation with Rodgers waiting to take over behind him. Green Bay now has Love waiting in the wings. Three years after Rodgers was drafted, Favre was pushed out in a trade to the New York Jets as the Rodgers era began.

Favre said he hopes Rodgers can deliver another Super Bowl to Green Bay before the end of his time there.

“But the thing is, life’s too short,” he added. “I want him to be happy. He’s been there as long as I was there, and I know what that means, and he’s put up unbelievable numbers. Win another Super Bowl and then do what you want to do, whether it’s keep playing, play somewhere else, whatever. But win one more in Green Bay and go out the way you want to go out.”

Favre said he sent a text to Rodgers on Thursday when the news of him wanting out first broke.

Rodgers told Favre, “‘Thanks for checking on me. I’ll touch base with you after all this is over.’”

“And that was it,” Favre added. “We haven’t talked since.”
