Report: Bucs RB Bucky Irving (foot) could miss 2 weeks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving could miss the next two games due to a sprain in his left foot, ESPN reported Friday.

Irving, on crutches and wearing a walking boot earlier in the week, is expected to be ruled out for Sunday’s game against the host Seattle Seahawks (3-1). He also is in jeopardy of sitting out the Week 6 game against the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 5.

Irving joined wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring), safety Christian Izien (undisclosed) and cornerbacks Jamel Dean (hip) and Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) in sitting out practice on Friday.

Rachaad White, Sean Tucker and undrafted rookie Josh Williams are expected to handle the rushing responsibilities on Sunday for Tampa Bay (3-1).

Irving gained 165 yards from scrimmage and had a 72-yard touchdown catch in Tampa’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The injury occurred in the first half when he was tackled by Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell.

Head coach Todd Bowles said on Wednesday that if Irving was “not out of the boot by Friday, more than likely he’s not going to play.”

Irving has 430 yards from scrimmage in 2025, seventh in the NFL.

White has 23 carries for 108 yards and one touchdown this season. He also has eight receptions for 34 yards.

Bucs RB Bucky Irving (foot) on crutches, could miss Week 5

Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving was on crutches and wearing a walking boot on his left foot at Wednesday’s practice.

ESPN reported Irving has a foot sprain and his status is unclear for Sunday’s visit to Seattle to play the Seahawks (3-1).

Irving gained 165 yards from scrimmage, and had a 72-yard touchdown catch in Tampa’s loss to the Eagles last week. The injury occurred in the first half while Irving was tackled by Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell.

Head coach Todd Bowles said Irving had an MRI exam and expects to know more in 48 hours when team medical personnel will determine whether Irving can be available at Seattle.

“They said we’ll know more by Friday,” Bowles said of Irving’s status. “Right now it’s a sprain. Taking it day-by-day. If he’s not out of the boot by Friday, more than likely he’s not going to play.”

Irving has 430 yards from scrimmage in 2025, sixth in the NFL, and would be replaced in the lineup by Rachaad White.

White has 23 carries for 108 yards and one touchdown this season. He also has eight receptions for 34 yards.

Bucs’ Baker Mayfield practices; Mike Evans does not

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was a full participant after getting spiked in the leg in last week’s game, but star wide receiver Mike Evans and rookie running back Bucky Irving did not participate Wednesday.

Evans is dealing with hamstring and calf issues while Irving was sidelined for the walkthrough with hip/back ailments.

Mayfield was a full participant on the estimated injury report after his lower leg got stepped on in last week’s overtime win over the Carolina Panthers. He vowed to be ready to play this week against the visiting Las Vegas Raiders (2-10).

“Yeah, it’s a part of my job just to get ready to physically play,” Mayfield told reporters Wednesday. “[I’m] doing my recovery stuff, everything I need to do to be able to be ready to play and yeah, feel decent. [I’m] still a little sore but it’s Week 13 or 14 in the NFL so got to go.”

Mayfield was stepped on by Panthers defensive end Jadeveon Clowney after a sack. He was replaced briefly by Kyle Trask before returning. He threw for 235 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

The 6-6 Bucs are currently on the outside looking in for the postseason, having lost twice to the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons.

Evans has 39 catches for 521 yards and seven TDs on the season after topping 1,000 yards in each of his first 10 NFL seasons. Irving has rushed for 732 yards and six TDs in 12 games (one start).
