Saints place WR Michael Thomas on IR

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Thomas sustained a knee injury on the first drive of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. He will miss at least the team’s next four games of the season.

The two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection has played in 10 games in 2023 after totaling that number over the previous three seasons.

Thomas, 30, has 39 catches for 448 yards and one touchdown this season.

Thomas is in his eighth year with the Saints, who picked him with the No. 47 overall selection of the 2016 NFL Draft. He recorded consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in his first four years in the league, culminating with 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns in 2019, when he was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Also on Tuesday, the Saints signed defensive back Cameron Dantzler to the active roster from the practice squad and wideout Marquez Callaway to the practice squad.

Dantzler, 25, has played in two games this season. He has 149 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 37 career games (26 starts) with the Vikings and Saints.

Callaway, 25, has not appeared in a game in 2023 but has played in 42 games (17 starts) for New Orleans over the past three seasons, with 83 career receptions for 1,069 yards and seven touchdowns.

Texans sign free agent CB Cameron Dantzler

Cornerback Cameron Dantzler has found yet another new home, signing a deal with the Houston Texans on Tuesday, while wide receiver Alex Bachman was waived.

Dantzler, 24, played in 35 games with 26 starts for the Minnesota Vikings over the past three seasons, but is now with his fourth team since last season ended.

A third-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2020, Dantzler was let go by the Vikings in March before getting cut by the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills.

During his three seasons in Minnesota, Dantzler had 149 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He had 17 passes defended.

Bachman, 27, was signed by the Texans to a reserve/future contract in January. He has four games of NFL experience, mostly on special teams, with the New York Giants from 2020-21.

Vikings activate CB Cameron Dantzler from COVID list

The Minnesota Vikings activated cornerback Cameron Dantzler off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday.

He went on the list Oct. 11 and missed the Vikings’ Week 5 win over the Detroit Lions.

It wasn’t clear whether Dantzler would be able to play Sunday when the Vikings (2-3) face the Panthers (3-2) on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.

Dantzler, 23, was inactive in Week 1 and has played in just three games this season, making six tackles and breaking up two passes.

The Vikings selected Dantzler in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he appeared in 11 games (10 starts) and made 46 tackles and had two interceptions. He added one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Vikings CB Dantzler might play Sunday, coach says

The Minnesota Vikings received some good news about rookie cornerback Cameron Dantzler on Monday, a day after he was stretchered off the field over concern of a head or neck injury during a win at Green Bay.

“We were all concerned about him, but it looks like he’s going to be just fine,” said coach Mike Zimmer, who also indicated that Dantzler could play Sunday when the Vikings host NFC North rival Detroit.

Dantzler, who has played in five games, all as a starter, left the contest against the Packers in the first quarter when he collided with teammate Anthony Harris while attempting to make a tackle. Dantzler’s head hit Harris’ thigh.

A third-round pick of the Vikings in this year’s draft, Dantzler has 26 tackles, including two for a loss.

Without Dantzler for much of the game, the Vikings were down to rookies Jeff Gladney and Harrison Hand at the corners, with Harris playing corner in nickel formations.
