Jets sign UFL K Harrison Mevis, release K Anders Carlson

The New York Jets signed UFL standout Harrison Mevis and released fellow kicker Anders Carlson on Wednesday.

Mevis, 23, played for the Birmingham Stallions in 2025 and made 20 of 21 field goals, with a long of 56 yards.

Dubbed the “Thiccer Kicker” for his burly frame, Mevis set the school record at Missouri with 405 career points.

The 5-foot-11, 243-pound All-American made 84.0 percent (89 of 106) of his field goals and 148 of 149 PATs for the Tigers from 2020-23.

His career-long 61-yard field goal as time expired gave Mizzou a 30-27 upset of No. 15 Kansas State in 2023.

Mevis signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May 2024 but was waived in August.

Carlson, 27, kicked in five games for the Jets in 2024 and made 8 of 10 field goals and 9 of 11 extra points.

A sixth-round pick by Green Bay in 2023, Carlson has converted 40 of 48 field goals and 46 of 54 PATs in 24 career games with the Packers, San Francisco 49ers (2024) and Jets.

Late field goal gives Raiders pivotal win over Colts

Daniel Carlson converted a 33-yard field goal Sunday as time expired, lifting the Las Vegas Raiders to a 23-20 win over the host Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts (9-7) tied the score on Michael Badgley’s 41-yard field goal with 1:56 left, but Las Vegas (9-7) drove 60 yards in 10 plays to set up Carlson’s second game-winner during its three-game winning streak that’s kept its AFC playoff hopes alive.

The big play on the winning drive was Derek Carr’s 24-yard completion to Hunter Renfrow that moved the ball to the Indianapolis 24-yard line. Three Josh Jacobs runs ran the clock down to two seconds, setting the stage for Carlson.

Carr completed 24 of 31 passes for 255 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while Zay Jones caught eight passes for 120 yards. The Raiders outgained the Colts 326-262.

NFL rushing leader Jonathan Taylor did his part for Indianapolis with 108 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries. Quarterback Carson Wentz, who was released out of COVID-19 protocol on Saturday and formally cleared to play on Sunday, hit 16 of 27 passes for 148 yards and a 45-yard touchdown to T.Y. Hilton in the third quarter to give the Colts a 17-13 lead.

Las Vegas controlled most of the first half, starting with a 12-play, 75-yard drive to begin the game that chewed up 7:09 of clock. Jacobs capped it with a 2-yard run.

Carlson increased the lead to 10-0 just 48 seconds into the second quarter with a 47-yard field goal, seven plays after a 41-yard punt return by Renfrow set the Raiders up at the Indianapolis 35.

Badgley converted from 46 yards away with 10:07 left in the first half to get the Colts on the board, but Las Vegas restored a 10-point lead when Carlson drilled a 44-yard field goal with 1:47 left.

However, Indianapolis worked its way into contention with a 60-yard drive that culminated with Taylor’s 1-yard run with one second on the clock, slicing its deficit to 13-10.

Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson signs $3.384M tender

Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson signed his tender with the team on Thursday, according to multiple reports.

Carlson will make $3.384 million in 2021. He was a restricted free agent and the Raiders placed a second-round tender on him in March to retain his services.

Carlson was a superb 33 of 35 on field-goal attempts last season while tying for the NFL lead with 144 points. He nailed all 26 of his attempts under 40 yards.

Overall, the 26-year-old has made 69 of 82 field-goal attempts in three NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings (2018) and Raiders (2018-20).

He hit just 1 of 4 attempts in two games with the Vikings before being released in 2018. He was picked up by the Raiders and went 16 of 17 the rest of the season.

Carlson has made 103 of 107 point-after attempts in 44 NFL games.
